What cardholders say about the RBC ION+ Visa
Sentiment from creditcardGenius user reviews and Money We Have 5 reviews
Money We Have (Barry Choi)
Underrated low-fee card; mobile device insurance is the perk
Barry Choi calls it "highly underrated" and notes that "for a relatively low fee, you get a decent earning rate and mobile device insurance" — up to $1,000 for two years, though depreciation reduces payouts.
Nigel D (via creditcardGenius)
Bonus points never materialized
A 1-star review on creditcardGenius: "I have yet to see even one of my purchases get above 1x," complaining the advertised 3x points never applied to his spending.
creditcardGenius
Thin insurance for a card with a fee
creditcardGenius rates the card's insurance just 1.0 out of 5 — it carries only mobile device insurance, purchase security and a one-year extended warranty, with no travel or rental coverage.

Do not repair or replace a mobile device before receiving approval, or the claim will be ineligible.

What people ask about the RBC ION+ Visa
- No. The RBC ION+ Visa carries no travel insurance of any kind — there is no emergency medical, trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip or baggage delay, lost baggage or common carrier travel accident coverage. If you travel, you need to buy a separate travel insurance policy.
- No. There is no out-of-country emergency medical coverage on this card. A hospital stay or medical evacuation abroad can cost well over $100,000, so travellers should arrange standalone emergency medical travel insurance.
- No. The ION+ Visa does not provide a collision/loss damage waiver for rental cars. You would have to accept the rental agency's CDW (typically $20–$30 per day) or rely on a separate policy.
- Three non-travel benefits: Purchase Security (loss or accidental damage for 90 days, up to $50,000 per year), Extended Warranty (doubles the manufacturer's warranty by up to one year), and Mobile Device Insurance (up to $1,000). All apply whether you pay with the card or with Avion points.
- Up to $1,000 per claim for a phone, smartphone or tablet bought in full with the card and/or Avion points, covering loss, theft, accidental damage and mechanical failure for two years. Coverage starts only 91 days after purchase, payouts are reduced by 2% monthly depreciation plus a 10% deductible, and you are limited to one claim per 12 months.
- No. Purchase Security is excess (last payor) insurance. Any other coverage — for example your homeowner's or tenant's insurance — pays first, and this card typically covers only the deductible or remaining balance.
- No. Neither trip cancellation nor trip interruption is covered. If you cancel or cut short a prepaid trip, your non-refundable costs are entirely at your expense.
- AZGA Service Canada Inc., operating as Allianz Global Assistance, administers all assistance and claims. Call 1-800-533-2778 toll-free in Canada and the U.S., or 905-816-2581 collect from elsewhere; claims can be filed at 1-800-464-3211.
