The RBC ION+ Visa includes no travel insurance. There is no emergency medical, trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip or baggage delay, lost baggage, or common carrier travel accident coverage. Anyone travelling with this card must purchase a standalone travel insurance policy.

No trip cancellation coverage. If you cancel a prepaid trip for a covered reason such as illness, the non-refundable cost is not reimbursed by this card. 🔴 Financial exposure: a $5,000 non-refundable trip is entirely at your expense.
No emergency medical coverage abroad. You would need a separate travel health policy for any out-of-country medical care. 🔴 Financial exposure: a hospital stay or medical evacuation abroad can exceed $100,000 with no coverage from this card.
No emergency evacuation or repatriation benefit. Commercial medical evacuation and repatriation of remains are not covered. 🔴 Financial exposure: air evacuation from a remote destination can exceed $200,000.
No trip interruption coverage. If your trip is cut short, unused non-refundable prepaid expenses are not reimbursed. 🟠 Financial exposure: an early return due to illness can cost $3,000–$10,000.
No trip delay reimbursement. Flight delays, extra hotel nights and meals are not covered. 🟡 Financial exposure: an overnight delay with hotel and meals can reach $400–$600.
No missed connection coverage. If a delayed inbound flight makes you miss a connection, rebooking costs are not covered. 🟡 Financial exposure: last-minute rebooking on a missed connection can cost $300–$800.
No early return benefit. The cost of returning home early because of an emergency is not covered. 🟠 Financial exposure: a last-minute one-way flight home can cost $1,000–$3,000.
No baggage delay coverage. Essential items bought when your checked bags are delayed are not reimbursed. 🟡 Financial exposure: replacing clothing and toiletries during a delay can cost $200–$500.
No lost or stolen baggage coverage. Luggage and personal items lost, stolen or damaged in transit are not covered. 🟡 Financial exposure: replacing a lost suitcase and contents can exceed $1,500.
No common carrier travel accident coverage. There is no accidental death or dismemberment benefit while travelling on a plane, train, bus or boat. 🟡 Financial exposure: this card pays no travel accident benefit.
No hotel or motel burglary coverage. Personal belongings stolen from your room are not covered. 🟡 Financial exposure: theft of valuables from a room can cost $500–$2,000.

How to make a claim
Call Allianz Global Assistance as soon as the loss occurs: 1-800-533-2778 (toll-free in Canada and the U.S.) or 905-816-2581 (collect from anywhere in the world).
Obtain supporting documentation — a police, fire or homeowner's insurance report as applicable. For a lost or stolen mobile device, notify your wireless provider to suspend service within 48 hours and report theft to police on the day of loss.
Do not repair or replace a mobile device before receiving approval, or the claim will be ineligible.
Submit the completed claim form with itemized receipts and proof the item was paid in full with your RBC ION+ Visa card and/or Avion points. Claims can be filed at 1-800-464-3211.
