Our take on travel insurance for the Woolworths Money Credit Card

Pauline Laurore
Expert review · Pauline LauroreAuthor of HelloSafe's card insurance reviews

No travel insurance. There never was any. Here is the honest answer to the search for Woolworths credit card travel insurance: this card, the Everyday Platinum, never carried complimentary overseas cover, and Woolworths has since pulled out of credit cards altogether. So, you dig the old card out before a trip and assume the platinum badge insures you. It doesn't, and the account itself was closed and moved to Macquarie back in 2023. A serious hospital admission overseas can run $50,000 to $200,000, and Medicare pays none of it once you leave Australia. If you still hold a Woolworths-branded card or its Macquarie replacement, a standalone travel insurance policy, from a few dollars a day, is now the only route to overseas medical, cancellation, or evacuation cover.

What works on travel
  • No false sense of cover: the card never included travel insurance, so there is nothing to wrongly rely on overseas
Where travel breaks down
  • No overseas emergency medical cover: a serious hospital admission abroad, commonly $50,000 to $200,000, is entirely on you
  • No travel insurance at any tier: cancellation, baggage, delay, evacuation, and liability all read not available
  • Card withdrawn in 2023: Woolworths exited credit cards and existing accounts moved to Macquarie

How to contact Woolworths Money Credit Card assistance?

Benefit administrator: Not applicable. The Woolworths Money Credit Card has no complimentary travel insurance, so there is no insurer or claims administrator to contact.

What to do if you need cover with the Woolworths Money Credit Card

1

Step 1: Do not rely on the card for travel cover

The Woolworths Money Credit Card never carried complimentary travel or rental insurance, and Woolworths withdrew the card in 2023. There is nothing to claim through Woolworths for a trip, a hire car, or a stolen purchase, so do not assume the platinum badge insures you.

2

Step 2: Buy a standalone policy before you travel

A dedicated travel insurance policy is the only source of overseas medical, cancellation, and rental excess cover for this card. Buy it before you leave Australia, and read the pre-existing condition terms if any apply to you.

3

Step 3: For a lost card or a disputed charge, contact your account servicer

Existing Woolworths accounts were moved to Macquarie in 2023. For a lost or stolen card, fraud, or a disputed transaction, use the servicing number printed on your statement or card. That line does not handle travel or insurance claims.

FAQ

What people ask about the Woolworths Money Credit Card

  • You cannot, because there is no travel insurance to activate. The Woolworths Money Credit Card, marketed as the Everyday Platinum, never carried complimentary overseas travel insurance, so holding the card or spending on it switches nothing on. Woolworths also withdrew the card in 2023 and moved existing accounts to Macquarie, so the product itself is no longer issued. If you are travelling and want overseas medical, cancellation, or baggage protection, the only route is a standalone travel insurance policy bought before you leave Australia. Buy it early and check the pre-existing condition terms if they apply to you.
  • No one. The Woolworths Money Credit Card has no complimentary travel, rental, or in-force purchase insurance, so there is no cover for the cardholder, a spouse or partner, or dependent children. This card never included complimentary travel insurance, and it was withdrawn when Woolworths exited credit cards in 2023. To protect anyone on a trip, take out a separate travel insurance policy that names each traveller. A standalone policy also lets you set the medical, cancellation, and baggage limits to suit the trip, which no card benefit here can do.
  • It does not, because the card carries no rental vehicle excess cover at all. Rental excess cover reimburses the excess you owe the hire company after a hire car is damaged or stolen, up to a cap, but the Woolworths Money Credit Card never included this benefit. So if a hire car is damaged or stolen, the excess is entirely on you, commonly $2,000 to $5,500 on an Australian hire. A standalone rental vehicle excess policy covers both Australian and overseas hires and is the only way to shift that cost off this card. Charge nothing to the card expecting cover, because none applies.
  • There is nothing to claim, because this card has no complimentary insurance. The Woolworths Money Credit Card never carried travel or rental cover, and it was withdrawn in 2023, so neither Woolworths nor any insurer will accept a claim tied to it. If you bought a standalone travel policy for your trip, claim through that insurer using the contact details in its own policy document. For a lost or stolen card, fraud, or a disputed transaction, use the servicing number on your statement, as existing accounts are now handled by Macquarie. That line does not handle insurance claims.
  • The short answer is everything on the insurance side. The Woolworths Money Credit Card has no overseas emergency medical cover, no evacuation, no trip cancellation, no baggage or delay cover, no personal liability, and no domestic interstate cover. It also has no rental vehicle excess cover, no extended warranty, no price guarantee, and no mobile phone insurance. While it was active it did carry a Chubb-backed purchase security benefit, but that ended when Woolworths withdrew the card in 2023. Treat the card as an insurance blank and cover any trip, hire car, or big purchase through a separate policy.
  • Yes, and it is not optional if you want to be covered. Because the Woolworths Money Credit Card has no complimentary travel insurance, a standalone policy is your only source of overseas emergency medical cover, which matters because Medicare pays nothing outside Australia and a serious hospital admission overseas can run $50,000 to $200,000. A separate policy also covers cancellation, baggage, and rental excess, none of which this card provides. Buy the policy before you leave, name every traveller, and check its pre-existing condition terms. If you now hold the Macquarie card your account was moved to, check its own Product Disclosure Statement separately.
  • No. The Woolworths Money Credit Card does not include mobile phone or screen insurance, and it never carried a dedicated phone cover. If your phone is lost, stolen, or the screen cracks, the repair or replacement is your cost, and a flagship screen repair alone runs about $200 to $600. Some cards and standalone gadget policies do cover phones, usually on the condition that the monthly phone bill is charged to the card, but that was never part of this product. Treat your phone as uninsured under this card and budget for repairs yourself, or look at a dedicated device policy.
  • No. There is no travel policy attached to the Woolworths Money Credit Card, so skiing, snowboarding, and any snow-sports injury or equipment loss are not covered, on-piste or off-piste. This card never offered complimentary travel insurance, so there is no snow cover to lose in the first place. For a ski or snowboard trip, take out a dedicated snow travel insurance policy, which typically covers on-piste activity and can add off-piste cover for an extra premium. Read its activities list carefully, since off-piste, racing, and backcountry are often excluded unless you pay to add them.
  • There was never any travel insurance on this card to lose. The Woolworths Money Credit Card, the Everyday Platinum, was a straightforward Visa that did not include complimentary overseas travel cover, unlike some pricier platinum cards. Woolworths then exited the credit-card market in 2023: the rewards program ended from June 2023, the cards stopped working from October 2023, and existing accounts were migrated to a Macquarie-branded Platinum Visa. If you relied on this card for anything, including a trip, that reliance ended with the card. Cover any future trip with a standalone travel insurance policy bought before departure.
