DBS Live Fresh card benefits: does the travel insurance still cover you overseas?

Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Our take on travel insurance for the DBS Live Fresh
DBS ended its complimentary travel insurance programme on 1 November 2025, so the DBS Live Fresh Card now includes no travel cover at all. This is an entry-level cashback card built for everyday spending, not for protecting a trip, and it never carried the travel benefits some premium cards do. A holiday you cancel for a family emergency is not refundable through the card, and a delayed flight or a lost bag is entirely your own cost. A serious overseas hospital admission can pass S$100,000, and MediShield Life (Singapore's national health insurance) does not cover you outside Singapore, so a bad fall in Bali or a stroke in Tokyo lands wholly on you. The card pays nothing toward that bill. A standalone Singapore travel policy fills the gap from about S$20 for a single trip, covering overseas medical, cancellation and lost baggage. Use the Live Fresh for its cashback, and buy travel cover separately before you fly.

- As an entry-level cashback card, it never offered overseas medical, trip cancellation or baggage protection
- No travel cover means a standalone Singapore travel policy is needed for any real protection on a trip

What cardholders say about the DBS Live Fresh
Cardholder experience with the card and its cashback 3 reviews
Feng Hui (Seedly)
Easy to track spending and maximise cashback
Easy to track spending to maximize cashback because it is based on transaction date and not posting date. Good for 5% cashback for contactless and another 5% for online as long as within $400 per calendar month for each category.
Ray (Seedly)
A good first card for respectable cashback
This is my first credit card and I have bene using it for over 2 years. While new cards such as OCBC FRANK and UOB EVOL have shadowed this card in terms of benefits, it is nonetheless a good card to achieve a respectable cashback.
Jun Jie Gan (Seedly)
Waivers granted, but contactless cap is low
Been using for more than 2 years. I have received waivers for twice. Contactless spending capped at $20 is too low.
How to contact DBS Live Fresh assistance?
This card carries no complimentary travel insurance, so there is no underwriter or 24-hour assistance hotline attached to it. For medical, cancellation and baggage cover overseas, buy a standalone Singapore travel policy and keep its emergency assistance number with you while you travel.
What to do if you need travel cover with the DBS Live Fresh
Step 1: Buy a standalone travel policy before you fly
Because the card includes no travel insurance, arrange a standalone Singapore travel policy that states its overseas medical, cancellation and baggage limits in writing. Cover starts from around S$20 for a single trip.
Step 2: Keep your policy and emergency number with you
Save your travel insurer's 24-hour emergency assistance number and policy number on your phone, and keep receipts, medical reports and any police or airline reports to support a claim.
Step 3: Escalate to FIDReC for a card-issuer dispute
For a dispute with the card issuer itself, not travel insurance, you can approach FIDReC, the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre, free of charge within 6 months of the issuer's final reply.
What people ask about the DBS Live Fresh
- No. DBS ended its complimentary travel insurance programme on 1 November 2025, so the DBS Live Fresh does not include any travel cover. The Live Fresh is an entry-level cashback card, and holding it or charging your air fare to it buys you nothing in overseas medical, trip cancellation, delay or baggage protection. This is a market-wide change from DBS, not a clause hidden in the terms, so do not assume any old certificate still applies. If you booked a trip expecting card cover, you are travelling uninsured unless you arrange a standalone policy. A single-trip Singapore travel plan starts at about S$20 and covers the medical and cancellation costs the card leaves out.
- Not as a blanket benefit. Unlike some premium DBS cards, the Live Fresh never carried automatic complimentary travel insurance just for holding it; any travel insurance link ran through the DBS Travel Marketplace booking perk, where cover could attach to trips booked through that channel. That perk ended on 1 November 2025 along with the wider DBS complimentary travel insurance programme. So even before then, the Live Fresh was a cashback card first, with no standing travel medical or cancellation cover of its own. Since November 2025 there is no complimentary travel insurance connected to the card at all, and a trip needs a standalone policy.
- None. As of August 2026 the DBS Live Fresh carries no complimentary travel insurance of any kind. There is no overseas emergency medical benefit, no medical evacuation, no trip cancellation, no travel delay, no baggage cover and no personal accident sum. The card is an everyday cashback card, and its perks now sit around cashback on contactless and online spending rather than insurance. If you want your flights, hotels and health protected on a trip, that has to come from a separate travel insurance policy. Reading the Live Fresh as a source of any travel cover will leave you exposed the moment something goes wrong overseas.
- Yes. Because the DBS Live Fresh includes no complimentary travel cover, a standalone travel insurance policy is the only way to protect a trip. The gap is real: MediShield Life (Singapore's national health insurance) does not cover you outside Singapore, and a serious hospital admission in the US or Europe can pass S$100,000, none of which the card pays. A standalone Singapore policy starts at around S$20 for a single trip and typically covers overseas medical, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, delays and lost baggage, and most plans include COVID-19 medical cover too. Buy the policy before you fly, since cover for a trip already under way is limited or unavailable.
- No. The DBS Live Fresh does not cover COVID-19 overseas, because it no longer carries any complimentary travel insurance after DBS ended the programme on 1 November 2025. If you catch COVID-19 abroad and need a doctor, a hospital stay or an earlier flight home, the card pays nothing toward any of it. For that protection you need a standalone travel insurance policy, and most Singapore travel plans now include COVID-19 medical treatment and sometimes trip cancellation if you test positive before departure. Check the specific plan wording, since COVID-19 terms vary between insurers.
- No. The DBS Live Fresh does not include mobile phone insurance, and it carries no purchase protection or extended warranty either. If your phone screen cracks or the handset is stolen, the repair or replacement is entirely on you, and replacing a flagship smartphone out of pocket runs about S$1,200 to S$2,300. Mobile phone cover is uncommon on Singapore credit cards and is usually tied to specific premium cards or telco plans, not to an entry-level cashback card like the Live Fresh. For device protection you would need a separate gadget or mobile insurance policy, or a card that names phone cover as a benefit.
- Not on its own. The DBS Live Fresh is useful for earning cashback on the contactless and online spending you charge to it, but it gives no travel insurance, so it does not make you ready for a trip by itself. If you fall ill, get injured, have to cancel, or lose your luggage, the card offers nothing toward the cost. Pair it with a standalone travel insurance policy and the picture changes: the card earns the cashback, and the policy covers the overseas medical, cancellation and baggage risks from about S$20 a trip. Used that way the Live Fresh is a solid everyday card, just not a substitute for travel cover.
