HSBC Live+ card benefits: does the complimentary travel insurance still cover you?

Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Our take on travel insurance for the HSBC Live+
HSBC removed the Live+ card's complimentary travel accident cover on 1 April 2025, so the card now includes no travel insurance at all. Even before that date, the cover was accident-only: a lump sum for accidental death or permanent disablement, never real medical or trip cancellation cover. A holiday you cancel for a family emergency was never refundable through the card, and it still is not. A serious hospital admission overseas can pass S$100,000, and MediShield Life, Singapore's national health insurance, does not cover you outside Singapore, so a bad fall in Bali or a stroke in Tokyo lands entirely on you. The Live+ is a cashback card, and HSBC's travel cover now sits on other HSBC cards such as the TravelOne and Visa Infinite, not on this one. A standalone Singapore travel policy fills the gap from about S$20 for a single trip, covering overseas medical, cancellation and lost bags. Treat the Live+ as a cashback and payment card now, and buy travel cover separately before you fly.
- HSBC removed the Live+ card's complimentary travel accident cover on 1 April 2025, so the card now carries no travel insurance
- Even under the old policy, only accidental death and permanent disablement were paid, with no overseas medical or trip cancellation cover
- No overseas medical, no trip cancellation and no baggage cover means a standalone travel policy is needed for any real protection

How to contact HSBC Live+ assistance?
This card carries no complimentary travel insurance, so there is no underwriter or 24-hour assistance hotline attached to it. For medical, cancellation and baggage cover overseas, buy a standalone Singapore travel policy and keep its emergency assistance number with you while you travel.
What to do if you need travel cover with the HSBC Live+
Step 1: Buy a standalone travel policy before you fly
Because the card includes no travel insurance, arrange a standalone Singapore travel policy that states its overseas medical, cancellation and baggage limits in writing. Cover starts from around S$20 for a single trip.
Step 2: Keep your policy and emergency number with you
Save your travel insurer's 24-hour emergency assistance number and policy number on your phone, and keep receipts, medical reports and any police or airline reports to support a claim.
Step 3: Escalate to FIDReC for a card-issuer dispute
For a dispute with the card issuer itself, not travel insurance, you can approach FIDReC, the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre, free of charge within 6 months of the issuer's final reply.
What people ask about the HSBC Live+
- No. HSBC removed the Live+ card's complimentary travel accident cover on 1 April 2025, so the card no longer includes any travel insurance. Holding the card, or charging your air fare to it, buys you nothing in the way of overseas medical, trip cancellation, delay or baggage protection. The Live+ is a cashback card, and HSBC's travel cover now sits on other HSBC cards such as the TravelOne and the Visa Infinite. If you booked a trip expecting card cover, you are travelling uninsured unless you arrange a standalone policy. A single-trip Singapore travel plan starts at about S$20 and covers the medical and cancellation costs the card never included anyway.
- Yes, but it was narrow. Before 1 April 2025, the HSBC Live+ carried a travel accident policy: a lump sum of up to about S$1,000,000 for accidental death or permanent disablement while travelling, paid only when you charged your travel fare to the card. That was the whole benefit. It never paid for overseas hospital treatment, it never refunded a cancelled trip, and it did not cover delayed flights or lost bags. Many cardholders assumed complimentary travel insurance meant real medical and cancellation cover, and it did not. So even in its best days the Live+ cover was a personal accident certificate, and since 1 April 2025 there is no complimentary insurance on the card at all.
- None. As of 2026 the HSBC Live+ carries no complimentary travel insurance of any kind. There is no overseas emergency medical benefit, no medical evacuation, no trip cancellation, no travel delay, no baggage cover and no personal accident sum. The card is a cashback card, and its perks now sit around cashback on dining, groceries and everyday spending rather than insurance. If you want your flights, hotels and health protected on a trip, that has to come from a separate travel insurance policy. Reading the card as a source of any travel cover will leave you exposed the moment something goes wrong overseas.
- Yes. Because the HSBC Live+ no longer includes any complimentary travel cover, a standalone travel insurance policy is the only way to protect a trip. The gap it fills is real: MediShield Life, Singapore's national health insurance, does not cover you outside Singapore, and a serious hospital admission in the US or Europe can pass S$100,000, none of which the card pays. A standalone Singapore policy starts at around S$20 for a single trip and typically covers overseas medical, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation, delays and lost baggage, and most plans include COVID-19 medical cover too. Buy the policy before you fly, since cover for a trip already under way is limited or unavailable.
- No. The HSBC Live+ does not cover COVID-19 overseas, because it no longer carries any complimentary travel insurance after HSBC removed the accident cover on 1 April 2025. If you catch COVID-19 abroad and need a doctor, a hospital stay or an earlier flight home, the card pays nothing toward any of it. Even the old policy was accident-only and would not have covered an illness like COVID-19. For that protection you need a standalone travel insurance policy, and most Singapore travel plans now include COVID-19 medical treatment and sometimes trip cancellation if you test positive before departure. Check the specific plan wording, since COVID-19 terms vary between insurers.
- No. The HSBC Live+ does not include mobile phone insurance, and it carries no purchase protection or extended warranty either. If your phone screen cracks or the handset is stolen, the repair or replacement is entirely on you, and replacing a flagship smartphone out of pocket runs about S$1,200 to S$2,300. Mobile phone cover is uncommon on Singapore credit cards and is usually tied to specific premium cards or telco plans, not to a cashback card like the Live+. For device protection you would need a separate gadget or mobile insurance policy, or a card that names phone cover as a benefit. Do not count on the Live+ for anything beyond its cashback rewards.
- Not on its own. The HSBC Live+ is useful for earning cashback on the dining, groceries and everyday spending you charge to it, but it gives no travel insurance, so it does not make you ready for a trip by itself. If you fall ill, get injured, have to cancel, or lose your luggage, the card offers nothing toward the cost. Pair it with a standalone travel insurance policy and the picture changes: the card earns the cashback, and the policy covers the overseas medical, cancellation and baggage risks from about S$20 a trip. Used that way the Live+ is a solid everyday card, just not a substitute for travel cover.
