No trip cancellation cover. This benefit is not included with the Breeze Classic Mastercard, the low-rate tier of the Breeze range. Prepaid flights, hotels, and tours are not reimbursable if you cancel, and a standalone travel insurance policy is required for this coverage.

Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Our take on travel insurance for the Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard
No travel insurance on this tier. Not a dollar of it. Here is the honest answer to the search for Bankwest Breeze Mastercard travel insurance: the Breeze Classic is Bankwest's low-rate card, and complimentary cover is reserved for the Breeze Platinum and World Mastercard, not this one. So you book a trip and assume the Mastercard brings some cover with it. It doesn't, and the 2.95% foreign transaction fee means every overseas purchase costs you a little extra on top. What the card does well sits at home: a 12.99% purchase rate, one of the lowest going, and up to 55 interest-free days. For the trip itself, overseas medical, cancellation, or evacuation, a standalone travel insurance policy starts from a few dollars a day and is the only route this card leaves open.
- 12.99% p.a. purchase rate: one of the lowest ongoing rates going, useful if you carry a balance while you travel
- Up to 55 interest-free days: room to clear trip spending in full before any interest applies
- 0% balance transfer for 24 months: a way to move existing card debt across cheaply before a trip
- No overseas emergency medical cover: a serious hospital admission abroad, commonly $50,000 to $200,000, is entirely on you
- No complimentary travel insurance on the Breeze Classic tier: cover is reserved for the Breeze Platinum and World Mastercard
- 2.95% foreign transaction fee: every overseas or foreign-currency purchase costs extra, unlike the fee-free Bankwest platinum cards
- Every travel benefit reads not available: no cancellation, baggage, delay, evacuation, or liability cover
Every score is derived from official bank documents: terms and conditions, benefit guides, and claim procedures. No commercial relationship influences our ratings.

What cardholders say about the Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard
Real experiences on the low rate, fees, and getting approved 18 reviews
Julio Vergas (CreditCard.com.au)
Great for a low ongoing rate
This card is great for anyone wanting low interest rates. I got it cos of the purchase offer, 0% for 6 months. The balance transfer you could probably get better elsewhere, but for low ongoing rates it has to be one of the best. The low annual fee is just icing on the cake.

Declined with no explanation
Six figures Income, no other loan. Low expenses and credit card not approved. No explanation why not.
B B. (ProductReview)
Declined despite an excellent record
Having an 'excellent' credit score (around 950/1000) no debt other than my mortgage and a 10-year career in government, I thought it was a no-brainer that I would receive the card ... Eventually received a letter in the post from them saying I'd been declined!

What to do if you need cover with the Breeze Classic Mastercard
Step 1: Confirm the gap before you travel
The Breeze Classic Mastercard carries no complimentary travel, rental, or purchase insurance, and never has, so there is nothing to claim through Bankwest or Cover-More. Do not assume the Mastercard logo insures the trip.
Step 2: Buy a standalone policy for the trip or hire car
A dedicated travel insurance policy is the only source of overseas medical, cancellation, and rental excess cover for this card. Buy it before you leave Australia, and read the pre-existing condition terms if they apply to you.
Step 3: For a lost card or a disputed charge, call Bankwest
Contact Bankwest card servicing on 13 17 19 within Australia, or +61 8 9449 2840 from overseas, for a lost or stolen card, fraud, or a disputed transaction. This line does not handle travel or insurance claims.
What people ask about the Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard
- You cannot, because there is no travel insurance to activate. The Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard is the low-rate base tier of the Breeze range and is not an eligible card under the Bankwest Credit Card Insurance PDS (Product Disclosure Statement, the policy booklet), which lists only the Breeze Platinum, Platinum and World Mastercard tiers. Holding the Breeze Classic, or spending on it, does not switch any cover on. If you want overseas medical, cancellation, or baggage protection for a trip, the only route is a standalone travel insurance policy bought before you leave Australia.
- No one. The Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard has no complimentary travel, rental, or purchase insurance, so there is no cover for the cardholder, a spouse or partner, or dependent children. This low-rate tier has never carried complimentary cover. On the eligible Bankwest Breeze Platinum and World Mastercard cards, cover can extend to a spouse and accompanying children on the same itinerary, but the Breeze Classic is not on that eligible-card list. To protect anyone on a trip, take out a separate travel insurance policy that names each traveller.
- It does not, because the card carries no rental vehicle excess cover at all. Rental Vehicle Insurance Excess (which reimburses the excess the hire company charges you towards damage or theft) sits inside the Bankwest complimentary insurance reserved for the eligible Breeze Platinum, Platinum and World Mastercard tiers, not this low-rate card. So if a hire car is damaged or stolen, the excess is entirely on you, commonly $2,000 to $5,500 on an Australian hire. A standalone rental vehicle excess policy covers both Australian and overseas hires and is the only way to shift that cost off this card.
- There is nothing to claim, because this card has no complimentary insurance. The Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard has never carried travel, rental, or purchase cover, so neither Bankwest nor its insurer's agent Cover-More will accept a claim tied to this card. If you bought a standalone travel policy for your trip, claim through that insurer using the contact details in its own policy document. For a lost or stolen card, fraud, or a disputed transaction, call Bankwest on 13 17 19 within Australia or +61 8 9449 2840 from overseas, though that line does not handle insurance claims.
- The short answer is everything on the insurance side. The Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard has no overseas emergency medical cover, no evacuation, no trip cancellation, no baggage or delay cover, no personal liability, and no domestic interstate cover. It also has no rental vehicle excess cover, no purchase protection, no extended warranty, no price guarantee, and no mobile phone insurance. This low-rate tier has never included any of them. What the card does offer is a 12.99% purchase rate and up to 55 interest-free days, so it is a budget spending card, not an insurance product, and it charges a 2.95% foreign transaction fee overseas.
- No. The low-rate Bankwest Breeze Mastercard, sold as the Breeze Classic, does not come with any complimentary travel insurance. Complimentary Overseas Travel Insurance on the Breeze range is limited to the Breeze Platinum and World Mastercard tiers, which are the eligible cards named in the Bankwest Credit Card Insurance PDS. The Breeze Classic has never been on that list, so there is no overseas medical, cancellation, or baggage cover attached to it. It also charges a 2.95% foreign transaction fee, so for any overseas trip you would rely on a standalone travel insurance policy for cover.
- No. The Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard does not include mobile phone or screen insurance, and it has never carried a phone cover. If your phone is lost, stolen, or the screen cracks, the repair or replacement is your cost, and a flagship screen repair alone runs about $200 to $600. Some cards and standalone gadget policies do cover phones, usually on the condition that the monthly phone bill is charged to the card, but that is not part of this product. Treat your phone as uninsured under this card and budget for repairs yourself.
- Yes, and it is not optional if you want to be covered. Because the Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard has no complimentary travel insurance, a standalone policy is your only source of overseas emergency medical cover, which matters because Medicare pays nothing outside Australia and a serious hospital admission overseas can run $50,000 to $200,000. A separate policy also covers cancellation, baggage, and rental excess, none of which this card provides. The card also charges a 2.95% foreign transaction fee, so it is not a natural travel companion. Buy the policy before you leave, and check its pre-existing condition terms.
- No. There is no travel policy attached to the Bankwest Breeze Classic Mastercard, so skiing, snowboarding, and any snow-sports injury or equipment loss are not covered, on-piste or off-piste. On the eligible Bankwest Breeze Platinum and World cards, on-piste snow sports are included and off-piste is excluded, but the Breeze Classic is not one of those eligible cards. For a ski or snowboard trip, take out a dedicated snow travel insurance policy, which typically covers on-piste activity and can add off-piste cover for an extra premium.
