Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa travel insurance: what is actually included?

Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Our take on travel insurance for the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa
No travel insurance. None at all. That is the honest starting point for the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa travel insurance question. Most people see the word Rewards and a Visa logo and assume some overseas medical cover comes bundled in. It doesn't. Latitude states plainly that the included insurances are none, so there is no cancellation, no overseas emergency medical, and no luggage cover on this card. Picture a hospital admission in Bali: a serious overseas stay can run $50,000 to $200,000, and every dollar is yours because Medicare stops at the airport. Standalone travel insurance for a two-week trip starts around $60 to $150 and covers exactly this gap. If you travel with this card, arrange a separate policy before you fly, every time.
- No annual fee: you are not paying for insurance you never receive
- Straightforward position: Latitude states the included insurances are none, so there is no activation trap to misread
- No overseas emergency medical cover: a serious hospital admission abroad can run $50,000 to $200,000, all out of pocket
- No trip cancellation cover: prepaid flights, hotels and tours are not reimbursed if you cancel
- No luggage, delay or personal liability cover: every travel mishap is your cost
Every score is derived from official bank documents: terms and conditions, benefit guides, and claim procedures. No commercial relationship influences our ratings.

Solid rewards earn
Pretty good in terms of receiving rewards points per every dollar. So far so good after a year, though the monthly insurance protection cost adds up on routine bills like utilities that would never trigger a claim.

Rewards abandoned
I have had the Latitude Infinity Rewards card since Latitude took over the Myer credit card. They abandoned the rewards program I signed up for and then scrapped BPAY as a payment option. It feels like they are trying to get rid of long-term customers.
Anne Porter (ProductReview)
Never again
Had my personal information stolen in the cyber attack, which resulted in a fraudulent transaction on my savings account. I could not get through to customer service and my online complaint went unanswered for months, so I cancelled the card.
What people ask about the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa
- There is nothing to activate, because the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa carries no complimentary travel insurance. Latitude lists the included insurances as none, so no amount of prepaid travel charged to the card switches on overseas medical, cancellation or luggage cover. This is different from most premium cards, where charging the trip to the card activates the policy. If you want travel cover for a trip on this card, you need to buy a standalone travel insurance policy before you leave Australia.
- No one, because there is no complimentary insurance on this card to cover anybody. There is no cardholder cover, no spouse or partner cover, and no cover for dependent children, since the card provides no travel or purchase insurance at all. Some cards extend cover to family members travelling with you, but that only applies where a policy exists. For any real protection, each traveller needs their own standalone travel insurance policy.
- It does not work at all, because the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa includes no rental vehicle excess cover. If a hire car is damaged or stolen, the excess you owe under the hire agreement is entirely your cost, whether you rented overseas or in Australia. That excess commonly runs $2,000 to $5,500 per claim. To cover this risk, take the hire company's own excess-reduction product or a separate rental excess policy, which can start from a few dollars a day.
- There is no insurance claim to make, because this card provides no complimentary travel, rental or purchase cover. If your issue is a billing dispute, fraud or a chargeback on a purchase, contact Latitude through the details on your statement or at latitudefinancial.com.au. For anything a travel or purchase insurer would normally handle, such as a medical bill overseas or a stolen laptop, the claim would go to a separate insurer you have arranged yourself. Keep your own policy documents handy before you travel.
- In insurance terms, it covers nothing. There is no overseas emergency medical cover, no trip cancellation, no luggage or travel delay cover, and no personal liability cover. On the ground, there is no rental vehicle excess cover for overseas or Australian hires, and no roadside assistance. For purchases, there is no purchase protection, no extended warranty, no price guarantee and no mobile phone insurance. The card is a rewards and payments product only, so treat every insurance need as something you arrange separately.
- No, the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa does not include mobile phone insurance. If your phone screen cracks or the handset is stolen, the repair or replacement is your cost. A flagship screen repair typically runs $200 to $600, and a full replacement can reach $1,200 to $2,300. Some cards cover the phone when you pay the monthly bill with the card, but this one does not. If device cover matters, look at standalone phone insurance or a card that offers it.
- No, because the card has no travel insurance of any kind, so there is no cover for skiing or snowboarding, on-piste or off-piste. A skiing injury overseas would leave you paying the medical and evacuation costs yourself, and an air ambulance off the mountain can run into the tens of thousands of dollars. Snow travel is one of the higher-risk trips to take uninsured. If you are heading to the slopes, a dedicated snow travel insurance policy is the safer option.
- Yes. Because the Latitude Infinity Rewards Visa provides no complimentary travel insurance, a standalone policy is essential for any overseas trip. Medicare does not cover you outside Australia, and a serious hospital admission overseas can run $50,000 to $200,000. A separate travel insurance policy for a typical two-week trip often starts around $60 to $150 and covers medical, cancellation, luggage and liability. Arrange it before you leave, and check that it fits your destination and trip length.
