Expert review · Pauline LauroreAuthor of HelloSafe's card insurance reviews

$1,500 trip cancellation per person. No medical, no evacuation. Two facts that define this card for travelers. The cancellation covers Common Carrier tickets only and for two reasons: death or serious illness of the cardholder or an Immediate Family Member, verified by a physician, or the carrier's financial insolvency. Your prepaid hotel and tour deposits? Not covered. Baggage Delay pays $100 per day after a 4-hour delay, up to 3 days, one of the shorter triggers at this price point. Lost Luggage reimburses up to $3,000 per person if the airline permanently loses your bag. The gap: no emergency medical and no evacuation. A single ER visit in Japan or Europe runs $10,000 to $80,000. Standalone travel insurance covering $100,000 in emergency medical starts around $150 per year. If you travel internationally, factor that cost in.

What works on travel
  • $1,500 trip cancellation per person: covers prepaid Common Carrier tickets for illness, death, or carrier insolvency
  • $3,000 lost luggage per person: covers permanently lost or damaged Checked and Carry-on Baggage
  • $300 baggage delay: $100/day after a 4-hour delay, one of the shorter triggers on a $39 fee card
  • $1,000,000 travel accident insurance: covers accidental loss of life, limb, sight, speech on Common Carrier
Where travel breaks down
  • Trip cancellation covers Common Carrier costs only: prepaid hotels, tours, and activities are not reimbursable
  • Only 2 covered cancellation reasons: illness/death and carrier insolvency — no weather, no employer, no jury duty
  • No emergency medical abroad: every hospital bill is entirely the cardholder's responsibility
  • No emergency evacuation: a medevac runs $200,000 and this card provides nothing
  • No trip delay benefit: meals and lodging during flight delays are entirely out of pocket

What does Capital One QuicksilverOne Travel Insurance actually cover?

Quality, not just caps

Common Carrier only scope means prepaid hotels, vacation rentals, and tour fees are never reimbursable under this benefit, regardless of why you cancel. A $1,200 hotel booking on a cancelled trip is entirely the cardholder's loss.

Deductible : No deductible

Entire Common Carrier ticket cost charged to your covered Capital One Account Notify Benefit Administrator within 20 days: 1-800-825-4062 (US) / collect: 1-804-965-8071 Return completed claim form within 90 days

Trip Cancellation and Interruption covers the non-refundable Common Carrier ticket(s) you paid for with your Capital One QuicksilverOne card, up to $1,500 per Insured Person per trip. Hotels, tours, and other prepaid travel expenses are not covered. Coverage is secondary.

No emergency medical insurance exists in this Guide to Benefits. Every dollar of any hospital bill abroad is yours. A serious ER visit in Italy or Japan runs $20,000 to $80,000, and a medevac home can exceed $200,000.

No emergency medical coverage abroad. Travel and Emergency Assistance Services provides referrals to local doctors and hospitals only. All medical costs abroad are the cardholder's responsibility. A single ER visit in Japan or Europe typically runs $10,000 to $80,000.

What's not covered
  • All emergency medical expenses abroad: not covered by this card
No emergency evacuation coverage. A transoceanic air ambulance from Southeast Asia runs $200,000 to $300,000. This card provides zero coverage for that scenario.

No emergency evacuation or repatriation benefit. Travel and Emergency Assistance Services provides referrals and coordination only. Emergency transportation costs are entirely the cardholder's responsibility. Air evacuation from remote destinations can exceed $200,000.

Trip Interruption covers non-refundable Common Carrier ticket costs when a trip is cut short due to a covered reason, up to $1,500 per Insured Person. The same covered reasons as Trip Cancellation apply. Hotels, tours, and other prepaid expenses are not reimbursable.

Recommended : $10,000

  • Default of Common Carrier from financial insolvency
What's not covered
  • Pre-existing conditions (60-day lookback)

  • Voluntary trip shortening without a covered reason

What's not covered
  • All trip delay expenses from flight or Common Carrier delays: not covered by this card

No missed connection coverage. This benefit is not included with the QuicksilverOne. Rebooking costs and expenses from a missed connection are not covered.

  • All missed connection costs: not included with this card

CDW saved me on a rental in Europe

Rented a car in Italy and got a small scratch in a parking lot. Filed the CDW claim after getting back. Since I was outside the US, coverage was primary. No call to my personal insurance. Submitted the rental agreement, damage report, and repair estimate. Check came in about 3 weeks. The Capital One process through eclaimsline was straightforward.

Trip cancellation denied: hotel not covered

Had to cancel a trip due to illness. Got the doctor's letter. The flight was refunded through trip cancellation but the hotel was entirely my loss. The benefit only covers Common Carrier tickets. I had $800 in hotel deposits that trip cancellation did not touch. Wish I had known before booking non-refundable.

No medical abroad is a serious gap

Went to Japan and ended up at an urgent care clinic. Paid $400 out of pocket. Came home and confirmed: the QuicksilverOne has no emergency medical benefit. Travel and Emergency Assistance gives referrals but pays nothing. Good card for cashback but not enough for international travel on its own.

FAQ

What people ask about the Capital One QuicksilverOne

  • Most Capital One QuicksilverOne travel benefits activate automatically when you charge the full cost of your Common Carrier ticket (flight, train, or cruise) to your Capital One Account. For CDW, you must pay the full rental with the card and decline the rental agency's collision damage waiver at the counter. For Baggage Delay and Lost Luggage, the Common Carrier ticket must be charged to the card. No pre-registration is required for travel benefits. For Comprehensive Identity Solutions, you must enroll at myidentity.cyberscout.com/capitalone.
  • For trip cancellation, interruption, and Travel Accident Insurance: coverage extends to you, your spouse or Domestic Partner, and Dependent Children (under 19 residing with you; under 25 as full-time students; or permanently disabled dependents). For Baggage Delay and Lost Luggage: you and your Immediate Family Members traveling on the same covered trip. For CDW: you as the primary renter and additional authorized drivers listed on the rental agreement. For Personal Identity Theft and Comprehensive Identity Solutions: the primary cardholder.
  • At the counter, decline the rental agency's CDW or LDW option, then charge the full rental to your Capital One QuicksilverOne. In the United States, coverage is secondary: your personal auto insurance pays first, and the card covers your deductible and unreimbursed admin and loss-of-use charges. Outside your country of residence, coverage is primary: file directly with the benefit administrator at 1-800-825-4062, no personal insurer involved. Rentals must not exceed 31 consecutive days. Tesla and most exotic vehicles are excluded. Selected Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Cadillac, Infiniti, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, and Range Rover models are covered.
  • For trip cancellation, CDW, baggage, or travel accident: call 1-800-825-4062 (or collect +1-804-965-8071 from outside the US) and notify within 20 to 45 days of the incident depending on the benefit. For purchase security, extended warranty, or price protection: call 1-844-288-2140 within 60 days of the loss or product failure. Return your completed claim form and all required documentation within 90 days (CDW: within 365 days). For faster filing, visit www.eclaimsline.com (travel claims) or www.cardbenefitservices.com (protection claims). File the day the incident happens, not when you return home.
  • The QuicksilverOne does not cover emergency medical expenses abroad (all hospital bills are the cardholder's responsibility), emergency evacuation, trip delay reimbursement for flight delays, hotel or tour deposits under trip cancellation, or cell phone protection. Trip cancellation covers only two reasons: illness or death of the cardholder or an Immediate Family Member, and carrier financial insolvency. Pre-existing conditions within 60 days are excluded. CDW does not cover personal liability, injury to others, or items left in the vehicle. For international travel with significant non-refundable hotel and activity bookings, a separate travel insurance policy is strongly advisable.
  • Yes. The Capital One QuicksilverOne does not include emergency medical coverage abroad. The Travel and Emergency Assistance Services benefit provides 24-hour referrals to local doctors and hospitals, but it does not pay for any medical costs. All treatment costs are entirely the cardholder's responsibility. A single emergency room visit in Europe or Japan can cost $10,000 to $80,000. A standalone travel medical insurance policy covering at least $100,000 per person is advisable for any international trip. Annual multi-trip travel insurance plans typically start around $100 to $200 per year for healthy adults.
  • It depends on where you are renting. In the United States, coverage is secondary: your personal auto insurer files the claim first, and the card covers your deductible and any remaining unreimbursed charges from the rental agency. Outside your country of residence, coverage is primary: you file directly with the benefit administrator without involving your personal auto insurer. This primary-abroad feature is a genuine differentiator for international renters. In all cases, you must decline the rental agency's CDW at the counter and charge the full rental to your Capital One Account.
  • No. Trip cancellation covers only two specific reasons: serious illness or Accidental Bodily Injury of the cardholder or an Immediate Family Member, verified by a licensed physician and preventing travel; or financial insolvency of the Common Carrier. Weather, employer obligations, jury duty, job loss, and most other common cancellation reasons are not covered. Coverage also applies only to Common Carrier tickets (flights, trains, cruises) up to $1,500 per person. Prepaid hotels, tours, and activity deposits are not reimbursable under any circumstance.
  • Yes. Extended Warranty Protection doubles the original manufacturer's warranty up to one additional year on eligible warranties of two years or less. A 6-month warranty extends to 12 months. A 2-year warranty extends to 3 years. Maximum $10,000 per claim and $50,000 per cardholder. The item must have a valid original U.S. manufacturer's warranty. To file a claim, call 1-844-288-2140 within 60 days of product failure. Submit your claim form and documentation within 90 days. Reimbursement typically occurs within 5 business days of receiving all required documents.
