Our take on travel insurance for the Desjardins Odyssey World Elite Mastercard
The Odyssey World Elite is one of the strongest travel cards in our Canadian set on the coverages it offers, even though it offers only three: emergency medical care is best-in-class at $5,000,000 per trip for up to 60 consecutive days (under age 60), trip cancellation pays $2,500 before departure with unlimited reimbursement for changes made during a trip, and baggage is covered up to $1,000 including a $500 delay benefit after 6 hours. The trade-off is that there is no flight/transport delay benefit, no common-carrier travel-accident (AD&D) coverage, no missed-connection benefit, and no hotel-burglary coverage. Coverage days shrink with age (31 days at 60–64, 15 days at 65–75) and there is no medical coverage at all from age 76.
- Emergency medical up to $5,000,000 per person, per trip
- 60 days of coverage for travellers under 60
- Unlimited reimbursement for changes made during a trip (trip modification)
- $2,500 trip cancellation, no age limit, up to 18 recognized causes
- Baggage $1,000 plus a $500 delay benefit after 6 hours

- No travel accident (AD&D) coverage
- No missed-connection benefit
- Coverage days drop sharply with age and end entirely at 76

$5M medical and a primary rental waiver that delivers
Best-in-class $5,000,000 emergency medical for up to 60 days, plus a primary rental CDW good to an $85,000 MSRP for 48 days. Few Canadian cards match that combination, and the medical limit alone makes it a serious travel card.
Prince of Travel
Trip cancellation and changes held up on my claim
Cancellation pays $2,500 before departure and reimburses changes once you are on the trip. I claimed a reroute mid-trip and Desjardins covered it without a fight. Baggage up to $1,000 with a delay benefit rounds it out nicely.

Medical cuts off at 76 and no flight-delay benefit
Great while you are under 60, but coverage days shrink fast with age and there is no medical at all from 76. There is also no flight or transport delay and no missed-connection cover, so older travellers and anyone worried about delays need a separate policy.
