Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Solid cancel within scope. No medical abroad. Here's what that gap actually costs on a United Quest trip. The trip cancellation covers up to $1,500 per person, but only for Common Carrier costs. Hotels, tours, and every non-airline prepaid charge are excluded, even for a covered reason like illness or severe weather. Most cardholders assume trip cancellation reimburses the full trip. The benefit terms reimburse only non-refundable fares charged to a Common Carrier. A $3,000 hotel deposit and an $800 pre-booked tour are out of pocket. Zero emergency medical coverage exists on this card. Every dollar of any hospital bill abroad is yours. A serious ER visit in Europe or Japan typically runs $10,000 to $60,000. Standalone travel insurance starts at $100,000 per person for emergency medical on international trips. The gap between that and the United Quest card benefits: $100,000. If your travel is primarily United flights with minimal prepaid hotel costs, the trip cancellation works within its scope. If you're traveling internationally without separate health coverage, the medical gap warrants a dedicated policy.

CDW coverage worked, zero hassle
A fender bender on day three. We didn't buy CDW. We paid nothing. The card covered it.

12-hour trigger is the real limitation
The 12-hour trigger is the real limitation. My flight was delayed 11.5 hours and I didn't qualify.
CFPB complaint (Chase Virginia Surety)
Written proof required, verbal confirmation not enough
Claim declined because I lacked a 'flight cancellation' email. Chase Travel verbally confirmed the cancellation, but the benefit department required written proof.

How to file a United Quest card claim
Step 1: Report within 20 days
Visit chasecardbenefits.com or call 1-800-350-2919 as soon as the incident occurs, no later than 20 days after. If outside the US, call collect at 001-214-503-2953. Do not wait, late reporting can reduce or void your claim. For trip delay, the deadline to file is 60 days.
Step 2: Gather documentation
Depending on the benefit, collect: travel itinerary, Covered Card Account statement showing the Common Carrier fare, written confirmation from the carrier stating the covered reason, itemized receipts for all claimed expenses, police or carrier report if applicable, and any settlement or denial from the Common Carrier.
Step 3: Submit all documents within 90 days
Submit the complete documentation package to chasecardbenefits.com within 90 days of the incident (100 days for trip delay). Once all required documents are received, expect a response within approximately 7 business days. If denied, request the specific denial reason in writing and appeal with point-by-point documentation.
United Quest is a strong choice — but depending on what you prioritize, one of these may suit you better.
