The Citi Prestige has one benefit that still stands out in 2026: a 3-hour trip delay trigger. Most premium travel cards start coverage at 6 hours. The Prestige starts at 3. That means a 4-hour weather delay at O'Hare turns into a covered dinner and a hotel night rather than an out-of-pocket expense. The $500 per trip cap is standard, but the threshold is not. Trip cancellation covers $5,000 per trip — the same ceiling as Capital One Venture X, half of what Chase Sapphire Reserve offers. The covered reasons list is solid: sickness, injury, death, severe weather, military orders, jury duty, home uninhabitable, terrorist attack, strike, quarantine, and involuntary job loss. That last one is Citi-specific: the CSR does not cover job loss. The benefit covers non-refundable prepaid travel expenses including hotels and tours, not just Common Carrier fares like the Strata Premier. The gap that defines this card's travel coverage: no emergency medical expense reimbursement abroad. There is no benefit that reimburses a hospital bill in Japan, Italy, or anywhere outside the US. The Citi benefit line can coordinate care, but it pays nothing. A single ER visit abroad runs $5,000 to $15,000. The Chase Sapphire Reserve pays a limited $2,500. The Citi Prestige pays zero. For international travelers without a separate health policy, this is the most important thing to know about this card. Emergency evacuation is covered up to $100,000. Pre-authorization from the benefit administrator is required before arranging transport — same requirement as the CSR. Lost luggage pays $3,000 per trip. Baggage delay covers essential purchases after a 6-hour wait, up to $500. This card was discontinued to new applicants in 2021. Existing cardholders retain their benefits as long as the account remains open.

3-hour delay benefit paid for dinner and a hotel — no questions asked
Flight out of JFK delayed 4 hours due to weather. Called Citi's benefit line, got the claim reference, kept my receipts. Filed online afterward. Reimbursed $340 for dinner for two and incidentals within two weeks. The 3-hour trigger is real and it works. Most cards wouldn't have covered that delay at all.

Trip cancellation claim approved, but documentation was heavy
Cancelled a $3,800 trip to Japan due to a family medical emergency. Citi required physician statement, written denial of refund from each supplier, itemized invoices, and my card statement. Took 6 weeks and one round of additional document requests. Was eventually reimbursed in full. The benefit is real but the process isn't fast.

No medical coverage abroad is a real problem — learned the hard way
Ended up in urgent care in Portugal — nothing serious, but the bill was $1,200. Assumed my Prestige covered it. It doesn't. Called the benefit line, they were helpful coordinating with the clinic but paid zero. Had to pay out of pocket. The trip delay benefit is great but anyone traveling internationally without separate medical coverage is exposed.
