Allianz Travel Insurance Review 2026: OneTrip limits, what a week really costs, and where $122 buys more coverage

⭐ HelloSafe score: 3.7 / 5. A big-brand bundle with generous cancellation limits, kids covered free on two plans and a 4.1/5 Trustpilot score from 198,733 reviews, held back by thin medical limits ($10,000 on OneTrip Basic, $50,000 on OneTrip Prime) and prices above the market average.
🧳 Who it is for: US residents who want cancellation, interruption, delay, baggage and medical in one policy, especially families with children under 18 and travelers who book their trip far in advance.
🏥 Key limits (OneTrip Basic / Prime / Premier): emergency medical $10,000 / $50,000 / $75,000, emergency transportation $50,000 / $500,000 / $1,000,000, trip cancellation up to $10,000 / $100,000 / $200,000, baggage $500 / $1,000 / $2,000.
💵 Price: Allianz advertises plans from $27 but publishes no price list. A documented quote for a 45-year-old on a $2,000 week in Mexico came to $89 (Basic), $122 (Prime) and $174 (Premier), against $77.52 and $100.25 for plans with $280,000 to $570,000 of medical coverage on HelloSafe.
❌ Less suited to anyone whose main worry is a hospital bill abroad, to travelers who buy more than 14 days after their first trip payment and have a medical history, and to non-US residents, who cannot buy these plans at all.
What is our honest verdict on Allianz travel insurance?
Our Allianz travel insurance review scores Allianz Partners USA 3.7 out of 5: a well-run, widely bought bundle that protects the money you spent on the trip far better than it protects you from a hospital bill, and that charges more than the average US plan for the privilege.
Allianz Travel Insurance is the retail brand of Allianz Global Assistance (AGA Service Company, Richmond, Virginia), which administers the plans; the contracts themselves are underwritten by Jefferson Insurance Company in New York or BCS Insurance Company in Ohio, depending on your state. Allianz states that nearly 59 million American travelers have bought its protection, and the plans are sold to US residents only.
Read as a set of contracts, the OneTrip range is built around trip cancellation and interruption: up to $100,000 of cancellation on OneTrip Prime and $200,000 on OneTrip Premier, with interruption at 150% of the insured trip cost. Emergency medical is the weak column. OneTrip Basic carries $10,000, Prime $50,000 and Premier $75,000, figures that a serious hospital stay abroad can consume in days. For comparison, the cheapest plan our comparator returned for the same week in Mexico carries about $280,000 of medical coverage for $77.52.
The score is where it is because Allianz does two things genuinely well: it covers children under 18 free on Prime and Premier, and it pays claims at scale, with a 4.1/5 Trustpilot score across 198,733 reviews and a reply to 81% of the negative ones. It loses points on medical limits, on price, and on a claims process that 17% of those reviewers rate one star, most often over documents requested mid-claim.
What Allianz travel insurance does well
- Cancellation limits that fit an expensive trip: Up to $100,000 per person on OneTrip Prime and $200,000 on OneTrip Premier, with interruption paid at 150% of the insured cost.
- Kids 17 and under covered free: On OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier, when traveling with a parent or grandparent (not on Pennsylvania policies). A family of four pays for two.
- A pre-existing condition benefit on every plan: Buy within 14 days of your first trip payment, insure the full non-refundable cost and be medically able to travel: conditions from the 120 days before purchase are then covered.
- SmartBenefits fixed payments: Prime and Premier pay $100 per person per day for a covered delay, and $100 for a delayed bag, without receipts.
- A 15-day free look: Cancel for a full refund within 15 days of purchase (longer in some states) if you have not traveled or filed a claim.
- A large, responsive claims operation: Trustpilot 4.1/5 from 198,733 reviews, 72% of them five stars, and 81% of negative reviews answered; Better Business Bureau (BBB) A+ and accredited since 1991.
Where Allianz travel insurance falls short
- Thin medical limits: $10,000 on OneTrip Basic and $50,000 on OneTrip Prime. The plans we quote for a US resident carry $250,000 to about $570,000.
- Above-average prices: NerdWallet rates Allianz "more expensive than average": $89 to $174 for one adult on a $2,000 week in Mexico, before any upgrade.
- No published price list: The homepage says "plans starting at $27" and nothing else; every real figure comes from a quote journey.
- Cancel Anytime is an upgrade, not a benefit: The 80% Cancel Anytime option exists only on Prime and Premier; NerdWallet lists it as unavailable on its online quote and CNBC Select says it must be bought through a travel agent.
- US residents only: Allianz states its plans are only available to US residents and may not be available in every state.
- Claims can stall on paperwork: 17% of Trustpilot reviews are one star, and the recurring complaint is a claim marked "more information needed" for weeks.
Every year, our experts audit each plan against its binding policy wording: coverage, limits and exclusions, cross-checked with real customer feedback and live market prices. The analysis is fully independent, with zero paid placements and no insurer able to pay to influence a rating. We compare travel insurance across every country and currency, using the plans, prices and coverage actually offered in your country, not a single guide translated.
Learn moreWhich OneTrip plan matches the trip you are actually taking?
Allianz sells three single-trip bundles, OneTrip Basic, OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier, plus two single-purpose plans, OneTrip Emergency Medical and OneTrip Cancellation Plus. The right one is decided by two numbers: how much of the trip is non-refundable, and how far you are going from a US hospital.
- OneTrip Basic: the entry bundle, with $10,000 of cancellation and $10,000 of emergency medical. It is the plan for a cheap domestic trip where the deposit is the only thing at risk. NerdWallet's reference quote puts it at $89.
- OneTrip Prime: Allianz calls it its most popular plan and recommends it for cruises and trips to Europe. Cancellation rises to $100,000, medical to $50,000 and evacuation to $500,000, kids under 18 are free, and the SmartBenefits fixed payments switch on. $122 on the reference trip.
- OneTrip Premier: the same plan with nearly every limit doubled: $200,000 cancellation, $75,000 medical, $1,000,000 evacuation, $2,000 baggage, a 3-hour rather than 5-hour delay trigger. $174 on the reference trip.
- OneTrip Emergency Medical: $50,000 of medical, $250,000 of evacuation, $2,000 of baggage and no cancellation at all. $46 on the reference trip, which makes it the only Allianz plan that competes on price with the medical-first plans sold on HelloSafe.
- OneTrip Cancellation Plus: $5,000 of cancellation and interruption, $150 of travel delay and no medical benefit. Allianz describes it as its most economical plan, "ideal for domestic travelers."
The existing medical condition benefit, the kids-free rule and the Cancel Anytime upgrade are all tied to timing or to the plan tier. The medical waiver requires purchase within 14 days of your first trip payment; the free child coverage exists only on Prime and Premier; Cancel Anytime is an optional upgrade on those same two plans. Buying Basic late, after a deposit, loses all three at once.
If the honest answer to "what am I insuring?" is a hospital bill rather than a deposit, none of the bundles fits well. A traveler who wants both should compare OneTrip Prime with a US-market plan that insures the trip cost and carries $250,000 of medical, such as Smart Travel Protection, which we come back to in the price section.
What does Allianz travel insurance cover, dollar for dollar?
Allianz travel insurance covers trip cancellation and interruption, emergency medical and dental care, emergency medical transportation, baggage loss and delay, and travel delay, with every limit set by the OneTrip tier you buy. The table reads each limit against the best figure our comparator returned for a US resident on the same week in Mexico.
Guarantee | OneTrip Basic | OneTrip Prime | OneTrip Premier | Best available through HelloSafe (US resident) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
🏥 Emergency medical Hospital and doctor abroad | $10,000 ($500 dental) | $50,000 ($750 dental) | $75,000 ($750 dental) | ≈$570,000 (Go Explore +) |
🚁 Emergency transportation Evacuation and repatriation | $50,000 | $500,000 | $1,000,000 | $1,000,000 (Atlas International) or actual cost (Go Explore +) |
💳 Direct payment of the hospital No money to advance | Not stated | Not stated | Not stated | Included on every plan we quoted |
❌ Trip cancellation Before you leave | Up to $10,000 | Up to $100,000 | Up to $200,000 | Trip price up to $40,000 (Smart Travel Protection) |
✈️ Trip interruption Cut short or delayed return | Up to $10,000 | Up to $150,000 (150% of trip cost) | Up to $300,000 (150% of trip cost) | $15,000 (Atlas International Premium, Epic Plan) |
🎒 Baggage loss or damage | $500 | $1,000 | $2,000 | $3,000 (Epic Plan) |
⏱️ Baggage delay | $200 | $300 | $600 | Not itemized on the cards |
🕐 Travel delay | $300 ($150 a day) | $800 ($200 a day, 5 hours) | $1,600 ($200 a day, 3 hours) | $5,000 (Epic Plan) |
🔁 Trip change protector Carrier change fees | Not listed | $500 | $1,000 | Not itemized |
⚖️ Personal liability | Not included | Not included | Not included | ≈$1,700,000 (Go Explore +) |
👶 Children under 18 | Priced | Free with a parent or grandparent | Free with a parent or grandparent | Priced per traveler |
Two readings of that table matter more than the rest. First, the medical column: Allianz's top single-trip plan carries $75,000, which is less than one-seventh of what Go Explore + carries and less than a third of what Atlas International carries from $5.90 a day. That gap is why our guide to travel medical insurance for US travelers starts from the medical ceiling rather than from the price.
Second, the cancellation column: here Allianz is in a different league. $100,000 on Prime and $200,000 on Premier are limits built for a group booking or a long, expensive tour, and the 150% interruption benefit pays the extra flight home on top of the unused part of the trip. If your money is in the trip rather than in the risk of falling ill, Allianz is answering the right question.
- The existing medical condition benefit only applies if you bought the plan within 14 days of your first trip payment or deposit, insured the full non-refundable trip cost, are a US resident and were medically able to travel on the purchase day. Miss any one of those and a claim linked to a condition treated, symptomatic or under investigation in the 120 days before purchase is excluded.
- Trip cancellation pays for a covered reason only. Changing your mind, a new work commitment or a fear of traveling are not covered reasons; that is exactly what the optional Cancel Anytime upgrade (80% refund) exists for, and it is sold only as an optional upgrade at purchase.
What do the AllTrips annual plans and the specialty plans add?
Beyond the OneTrip bundles, Allianz sells four annual AllTrips plans, a standalone OneTrip Rental Car Protector at $13 a day, and the Required to Work upgrade for business travelers. The annual plans carry their own medical ceilings, $20,000 or $50,000 per trip, and cap each trip at 45 or 90 days.
Allianz plan | Who it is for | Emergency medical | Points to note |
|---|---|---|---|
AllTrips Basic Annual, no cancellation | Frequent short trips where the deposit is refundable | $20,000 per trip | Evacuation $100,000, baggage $1,000, delay $600; trips over 45 days excluded |
AllTrips Prime Annual bundle | Frequent travelers who want some cancellation coverage | $20,000 per trip, no deductible | Cancellation and interruption $3,000 per year; rental car $45,000; 45-day trip cap |
AllTrips Premier Annual, highest limits | Families and frequent long-haul travelers | $50,000 per trip | Cancellation $2,000 to $15,000 per year, chosen at purchase; evacuation $500,000; baggage $2,000; 90-day trip cap |
AllTrips Executive Annual, business | Employees and self-employed who travel for work | $50,000 per trip | Cancellation $5,000 to $10,000 per year; business equipment $1,000; change fee $500; 45-day trip cap |
OneTrip Rental Car Protector Specialty | Anyone renting a car in the US or abroad | None | Primary collision, loss and damage coverage, $13 a day; $91 on the NerdWallet reference trip |
OneTrip Cancellation Plus Domestic | Domestic trips with a non-refundable deposit | None | Cancellation and interruption $5,000; travel delay $150 |
The annual plans are worth a second look only if you travel three or more times a year and never for longer than the trip cap. Our comparator returned no annual plan for a US resident on September 8, 2026, so we cannot put a live price against AllTrips; our guide to annual travel insurance in the US explains where the break-even against single-trip coverage usually sits.
What will Allianz not pay for, and why do most denials happen?
Allianz will not pay a cancellation claim for a reason outside its covered list, a medical claim linked to a condition from the 120 days before purchase unless the 14-day waiver applies, or any claim without the documents its examiner asks for. Those three explain most of the one-star reviews we read.
- Canceling for a reason not on the list: A change of plans, a work trip that came up or nervousness about a destination are not covered reasons. Only the optional Cancel Anytime upgrade refunds 80% of a trip canceled for a reason of your own.
- Pre-existing conditions without the waiver: Anything treated, symptomatic or under investigation in the 120 days before you bought the plan is excluded unless you bought within 14 days of the first trip payment, insured the full cost and were medically able to travel.
- Medical bills above the tier: $10,000 on Basic, $50,000 on Prime and $75,000 on Premier are hard ceilings; dental stops at $500 or $750.
- Trips longer than the annual cap: AllTrips Basic, Prime and Executive exclude trips longer than 45 days; AllTrips Premier stops at 90.
- Non-US residents: The plans are sold to US residents only and may not be available in every state; the kids-free rule and rental car coverage also have state exceptions.
- Claims filed without proof: Allianz requires supporting documents before an examiner reviews a claim: receipts, physician statements, carrier letters. A file marked "more information needed" does not move.
- Delays under the trigger: Travel delay needs a 5-hour delay on Prime, 3 hours on Premier, 6 hours on the annual plans; baggage delay needs 12 hours.
Allianz’s cancellation benefit is a list of covered reasons, not a promise to refund any cancellation. Illness, injury, death, job loss, a natural disaster at the destination and similar events are covered; a reason of your own is not. If your trip is expensive and your plans are uncertain, price the Cancel Anytime upgrade at purchase rather than assuming a change of plans is covered.
How much does Allianz travel insurance cost for a real trip, and can HelloSafe beat it?
Allianz travel insurance advertises plans from $27 but publishes no price list; a documented quote for a 45-year-old insuring a $2,000 week in Mexico came to $46 (OneTrip Emergency Medical), $89 (Basic), $122 (Prime) and $174 (Premier), while the same traveler pays $77.52 or $100.25 on HelloSafe for plans carrying 5 to 28 times the medical coverage.
Allianz prices every quote on the traveler's age, the trip cost insured, the destination and the dates, and none of those assumptions sit behind the "from $27" on its homepage. The usable benchmarks are therefore third-party quotes. NerdWallet priced a 45-year-old Illinois resident on a one-week, $2,000 trip to Mexico at $46 for OneTrip Emergency Medical, $73 for Cancellation Plus, $89 for Basic, $91 for the Rental Car Protector, $122 for Prime and $174 for Premier. CNBC Select priced a New York family of four (two adults of 35, children of 8 and 10) on a $12,000 April vacation in the United Kingdom at $75.50 per traveler, $302 in total, about 2.5% of the trip cost.
To compare like with like, we quoted the NerdWallet trip on HelloSafe on September 8, 2026: a US resident aged 45, Mexico, seven days in November 2026, in US dollars. The Go Explore plans return a computed price for the whole trip but cannot insure the trip cost, so the table compares the medical side of each Allianz plan with a HelloSafe plan that beats it on medical coverage; the US-market plans that do insure cancellation are shown at their per-day starting rate.
Comparison | Allianz OneTrip plan NerdWallet quote, $2,000 trip insured | Via HelloSafe real quote, September 2026, no trip cost insured | Medical coverage Allianz vs HelloSafe | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Entry plan | OneTrip Basic $89.00 | Go Explore $77.52 | $10,000 vs ≈$280,000 | HelloSafe $11.48 cheaper, 28 times the medical |
Mid plan | OneTrip Prime $122.00 | Go Explore + $100.25 | $50,000 vs ≈$570,000 | HelloSafe $21.75 cheaper (18%), 11 times the medical |
Top plan | OneTrip Premier $174.00 | Go Explore + $100.25 | $75,000 vs ≈$570,000 | HelloSafe $73.75 cheaper (42%) |
Medical only | OneTrip Emergency Medical $46.00 | Go Explore $77.52 | $50,000 vs ≈$280,000 | Allianz $31.52 cheaper, HelloSafe 5.6 times the medical |
With trip cancellation | OneTrip Prime $122.00 | Smart Travel Protection from $5.16 a day, starting rate | $50,000 vs $250,000 | Final price depends on trip cost and age: quote both |
Same trip on both sides: US resident aged 45, one week in Mexico. Allianz figures from NerdWallet ($2,000 trip insured); HelloSafe figures captured September 8, 2026 with no trip cost insured. Values copied from the table above.
The honest reading: the only Allianz plan that wins on price is the one with no cancellation benefit, OneTrip Emergency Medical at $46, and it wins by $31.52 while carrying $50,000 of medical against about $280,000. From OneTrip Basic upward, the HelloSafe plan is cheaper and carries between 5 and 28 times the medical ceiling. What Allianz sells that the cheaper plans do not is the bundle: cancellation on $2,000, interruption at 150%, delay, baggage and the kids-free rule in a single policy, which is why the last row asks you to quote both rather than trust a starting rate.
Age and destination move the HelloSafe side too: the same Go Explore plan cost $65.50 for a 34-year-old on ten days in Italy and $97.57 for a 65-year-old on fourteen days in Spain, and Go Explore + priced a family of four (42, 40, 10 and 7) at $241.93 for the Mexico week, all captured on September 8, 2026. Allianz's age loadings are not published, so we cannot draw the same curve for its plans.
How do you get paid by Allianz after something goes wrong?
Allianz reimburses after the fact: you call the 24-hour assistance line during the emergency, keep every receipt and report, then file the claim online, in the Allyz app, by email, fax or mail, and an examiner reviews it once the supporting documents are in. Approved claims paid by direct deposit arrive two to five business days after approval.
- Call 24-hour assistance first. From the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands the number is 1-800-654-1908; from anywhere else, call collect at 1-804-281-5700. The assistance team coordinates the hospital, the evacuation and the paperwork that a medical claim will later need.
- Keep every document. Allianz states that documentation is required before a claim examiner can review a claim: itemized medical bills and proof of payment, a physician's statement for a cancellation, the airline's delay or baggage report, receipts for essentials bought during a delay.
- File online or in the Allyz app. You need your email address or policy number and either your departure date or your purchase date. Email (claimsinquiry@allianzassistance.com), fax (804-673-1469) and mail also work, but Allianz says online submissions are processed faster.
- Answer document requests quickly. The recurring one-star story on Trustpilot is a claim marked "more information needed" for weeks; a complete file is the difference between a two-week payment and a two-month one.
- Choose direct deposit. Allianz quotes two to five business days from approval for direct deposit; a check takes longer.
Case 1, a covered cancellation. A traveler insured a $3,000 cruise on OneTrip Prime within 14 days of the deposit, then broke a leg three weeks before sailing. With a physician's statement and the cruise line's cancellation invoice, Allianz owes the insured non-refundable cost, $3,000, well inside Prime's $100,000 limit; the same claim on a $2,000 declared trip cost pays $2,000, because the benefit is capped at what you insured.
Case 2, a refused one. A traveler on OneTrip Basic was admitted to the hospital abroad for four days with a bill of $28,000. Allianz pays its $10,000 medical limit and no more; the remaining $18,000 is the traveler's. On OneTrip Prime the same bill would have been paid in full, and on Go Explore + it would have been settled directly with the hospital under a ceiling of about $570,000.
Case 3, a claim that stalls. A traveler cancels for a covered illness but sends a discharge summary instead of the physician's statement the claim form asks for. The file goes to "more information needed" and stays there until the right document arrives. Nothing is refused, but nothing is paid either; this is the scenario behind most of the delay complaints we read.
What do 198,000 Trustpilot reviewers say about Allianz Partners USA?
Allianz Partners USA holds a Trustpilot TrustScore of 4.1 out of 5 from 198,733 reviews, read on September 8, 2026: 72% five stars, 6% four, 3% three, 2% two and 17% one star. The profile is claimed, and Allianz has replied to 81% of its negative reviews, typically within a week.
The distribution is the useful number. A 72% five-star share on nearly 200,000 reviews is a claims operation that works most of the time; a 17% one-star share is one reviewer in six who left angry, and on a sample this size that is tens of thousands of people. Allianz's own trust page cites "4+ stars on Trustpilot" from "180,000+ reviews as of May 2026" and quotes Trustpilot's summary that customers praise the efficiency and ease of the claim process while some report slow communication and unclear guidance on what is reimbursable. The Better Business Bureau rates Allianz Global Assistance A+ and has accredited it since August 1991.
What policyholders praise
- Straightforward claims: Reviewers describe the online claim as "smooth" and "straightforward," with reimbursement typically inside two weeks.
- Responsive representatives: Helpful support by phone and in the app, and replies to most negative reviews within a week.
- Reassurance on expensive trips: Families and cruise passengers value cancellation and interruption limits that cover the whole booking.
What policyholders complain about
- Refund delays: Some reimbursements take up to a month, usually after a document request partway through.
- Partial payments without a clear reason: Claims paid below the amount requested, with reviewers saying the explanation was insufficient.
- Hard-to-reach service: Long holds and calls that end without a decision.
- Coverage that was not what the buyer thought: Refusals for reasons outside the covered list, discovered at claim time rather than at purchase.
The pattern is consistent with a large, list-based contract: Allianz pays what the wording says, quickly, when the file is complete, and the disappointments come from the gap between what the buyer assumed and what the covered-reasons list actually says. Reading the plan document during the 15-day free look is the cheapest insurance against that gap.
How do you reach Allianz from abroad, and from home?
Allianz runs one 24-hour assistance line for emergencies during the trip and a separate customer service line for policies, refunds and claims; the emergency number changes depending on whether you are calling from inside or outside North America, so save both before you leave.

Can you cancel an Allianz policy and get your money back?
Yes: Allianz gives you 15 days from purchase, or longer depending on your state, to cancel any plan for a full refund, provided you have not filed a claim and have not departed on the trip. After that period the premium is non-refundable.
- Check the review period on your plan document. 15 days is Allianz's stated standard; some states require more.
- Cancel online in Manage a Policy with your email address or policy number and the plan start date, or call customer service at 1-866-884-3556.
- Do not file a claim or travel first. Allianz states that you cannot cancel once you have left for the trip or once a claim is filed.
- Expect the refund on the original payment method; the plan stays active during the review period, so you are covered while you decide.
The free look protects the premium, not the time-sensitive benefits. The existing medical condition benefit is tied to the date of your first trip payment, not to the date you bought the plan. Canceling an Allianz plan after the 14-day window has closed and buying another one, from Allianz or anyone else, can cost you that benefit on the new plan.
Which plans give a US traveler more coverage than Allianz for less money?
For a US resident whose priority is the hospital bill, the best alternatives to Allianz are the plans sold on HelloSafe with $250,000 to about $570,000 of medical coverage and evacuation at actual cost or up to $1,000,000: on the same week in Mexico they cost $77.52 to $100.25 as computed quotes, or start from $5.16 a day for the US-market plans that also insure the trip cost.
Two named competitors are worth reading before you decide. Our AXA travel insurance review covers the other big-brand bundle US travelers weigh against Allianz, with the same cancellation logic and a $250,000 medical ceiling, and our Heymondo travel insurance review looks at a specialist built around direct payment of the hospital. For the plans behind the head-to-head table, see our reviews of World Nomads travel insurance in the USA and AIG travel insurance in the USA; if you were about to tick the insurance box at checkout instead, our Booking.com travel insurance review explains what that box actually buys.
If the deposit is your worry rather than the hospital, our page on cancel for any reason travel insurance compares the plans that refund 75% of a canceled trip; if you are over 60, the medical column matters more than the cancellation one, and our guide to travel insurance for seniors shows which plans keep quoting past 65.
Why this shortlist for an Allianz reader
You get emergency hospital care paid directly by the insurer, an evacuation home at actual cost or up to $1,000,000, and a medical ceiling of $250,000 or more, for less than the price of OneTrip Prime. Go Explore + leads because it computes a real price for your exact dates ($100.25 for the Mexico week we quoted, against $122 for Prime) with about $570,000 of medical coverage, no deductible, and about $1,700,000 of personal liability that no OneTrip plan carries; the one thing it will not do is insure your trip cost. Smart Travel Protection is the pick if you must insure the trip cost: cancellation up to $40,000 with 16 covered reasons, a Cancel For Any Reason bundle that refunds 75%, $250,000 of medical and direct billing, from $5.16 a day. Atlas International follows for travelers who want a US-dollar contract with $500,000 of medical and $1,000,000 of evacuation from $5.90 a day. Where Allianz still wins is the bundle for an expensive trip: $100,000 to $200,000 of cancellation and free children on Prime and Premier are limits none of these plans match, and we would rather say so than sell around it.

What else do people ask in an Allianz travel insurance review?
Yes, as a company: Allianz Partners USA scores 4.1/5 on Trustpilot from 198,733 reviews, holds a BBB A+ rating and has been BBB-accredited since 1991, and its plans are underwritten by Jefferson Insurance Company (NY) or BCS Insurance Company (OH). Our score is 3.7/5 because reliability is not the issue; the medical limits ($10,000 to $75,000 on OneTrip plans) and the price are. It is a good bundle for an expensive trip and a thin one for a medical emergency.
Allianz advertises plans from $27 and publishes no price list. On a documented quote for a 45-year-old insuring a $2,000 week in Mexico, OneTrip Emergency Medical cost $46, OneTrip Basic $89, OneTrip Prime $122 and OneTrip Premier $174 (NerdWallet). A New York family of four on a $12,000 UK vacation paid $302 (CNBC Select). The same 45-year-old pays $77.52 for Go Explore or $100.25 for Go Explore + on HelloSafe, captured September 8, 2026.
Limits, and two rules. Emergency medical runs $10,000, $50,000 and $75,000; emergency transportation $50,000, $500,000 and $1,000,000; trip cancellation up to $10,000, $100,000 and $200,000; baggage $500, $1,000 and $2,000. Only Prime and Premier cover children under 18 free with a parent or grandparent and offer the Cancel Anytime upgrade; Premier also triggers travel delay after 3 hours instead of 5.
It can, on every plan, if four conditions are met: you buy within 14 days of your first trip payment or deposit, you insure the full non-refundable cost of the trip, you are a US resident, and you are medically able to travel on the day you buy. Otherwise a condition treated, symptomatic or under investigation in the 120 days before purchase is excluded.
On OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier, children aged 17 and under are covered at no charge when traveling with a parent or grandparent, except on policies issued to Pennsylvania residents. OneTrip Basic, OneTrip Emergency Medical and the AllTrips plans price every traveler.
As an upgrade, not a benefit: Allianz lists Cancel Anytime, which refunds 80% of the non-refundable trip cost, as an optional upgrade on OneTrip Prime and OneTrip Premier. It is sold as an upgrade at purchase; NerdWallet could not add it on an online quote and CNBC Select says it must be bought through a travel agent, so ask for it explicitly if you want it. On HelloSafe, Smart Travel Protection’s Cancel For Any Reason bundle refunds 75% if bought in the time-sensitive period and you cancel at least 48 hours before departure.
Allianz sells through many partners (airlines, cruise lines, travel agents) at partner prices, and CNBC Select lists “no discounts” among its cons. A percentage off an unpublished price tells you nothing about value: get the final Allianz figure, then compare it with a real quote for the same trip, which for the reference week in Mexico was $77.52 to $100.25 on HelloSafe against $89 to $174 at Allianz.
Allianz states its plans are only available to US residents and may not be available in all jurisdictions, so a traveler living in the UK, Canada or Europe cannot buy the OneTrip plans on allianztravelinsurance.com. For a US resident applying for a Schengen visa, OneTrip Prime’s $50,000 medical and $500,000 evacuation exceed the usual consular minimum, but the consulate decides what certificate it accepts; check its list before relying on any plan.
Allianz gives no fixed timeframe: processing depends on the type of claim and the documents required, online filings are faster than mail or fax, and direct deposit arrives two to five business days after approval. Trustpilot reviewers most often report about two weeks for a complete file, and up to a month when documents are requested partway through.
Yes, within 15 days of purchase (more in some states), provided you have not filed a claim or left on the trip, online in Manage a Policy or by calling 1-866-884-3556. After the review period the premium is non-refundable, though the plan stays active until your trip ends.
For medical-first coverage, yes, and by a clear margin: on the same week in Mexico for a 45-year-old, Go Explore ($77.52, about $280,000 of medical) undercuts OneTrip Basic ($89, $10,000) and Go Explore + ($100.25, about $570,000) undercuts OneTrip Prime ($122, $50,000) and Premier ($174, $75,000). The exception is OneTrip Emergency Medical at $46, which is cheaper than anything we quoted while carrying $50,000. If you need the trip cost insured too, the honest answer is to quote both.
