The Chase British Airways Visa Signature covers baggage delay (up to $300 total) and lost luggage (up to $3,000 per traveler). It also includes Travel Accident Insurance up to $500,000 for common carrier accidents and $100,000 for 24-hour coverage during a trip. However, it has no trip cancellation, no trip delay, no emergency medical expenses, and no evacuation coverage. What does Chase Chase British Airways Visa Signature Travel Insurance actually cover?

Quality, not just caps

Trip cancellation is not included with the Chase British Airways Visa Signature. If your trip is canceled due to illness, weather, or any covered reason, you will not receive reimbursement through this card. Cardholders who want trip cancellation coverage will need a separate travel insurance policy or a card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

This card does not cover emergency medical expenses abroad. The Travel and Emergency Assistance benefit provides referrals to local hospitals or physicians, but all costs remain your responsibility. If you travel internationally and want medical coverage, a dedicated travel health insurance plan is necessary.

Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation are not financially covered. The Travel and Emergency Assistance service can connect you with local resources and help coordinate logistics, but it does not pay for the evacuation itself. Medical evacuation flights can cost $50,000 or more, making a standalone policy essential for international travel.

Trip interruption insurance is absent from this card's benefit package. If you need to cut a trip short due to a covered emergency, no reimbursement for unused prepaid expenses or additional transportation costs will be provided.

The Chase British Airways Visa Signature does not include trip delay coverage. If your flight is delayed by several hours and you need to cover meals, a hotel, or other out-of-pocket costs, this benefit is not available. Cards like the Chase Sapphire Reserve provide trip delay reimbursement starting at a 6-hour delay.

Missed connection coverage is not included. If you miss a connecting flight due to a delayed inbound flight and incur additional rebooking or accommodation costs, this card does not reimburse those expenses.

Early return coverage is not available on this card. If a family emergency requires you to return home before your planned departure date, no additional transportation costs are reimbursed.

Checked baggage must be delayed more than 6 hours Flight must be paid in full with the Chase British Airways Visa Signature You must file a Property Irregularity Report with the airline before leaving the airport Coverage is secondary (excess) over any other applicable insurance or airline compensation

Baggage Delay Insurance reimburses up to $100 per day for up to three days when your checked baggage is delayed more than six hours. Covered expenses include toiletries, clothing, and phone chargers (one per device). You must file a claim with the airline before leaving the airport. This benefit applies to the primary cardholder and immediate family members traveling on the same itinerary.

What's not covered
  • Carry-on baggage is not covered for delay, only for loss
  • Delays caused by customs or security processing
  • Items not among eligible covered purchases (toiletries, clothing, chargers)

Baggage must be checked in with, or stored in the care of, a common carrier Flight must be paid with the Chase British Airways Visa Signature Loss must be caused by the carrier, not personal negligence Coverage is secondary (excess)

Lost Luggage Reimbursement covers up to $3,000 per covered traveler when checked or carry-on bags are lost, damaged, or stolen by a common carrier. Sub-limits apply: $500 for jewelry and watches, $500 for cameras and electronics. Residents of New York have a separate cap of $2,000 per bag with a $10,000 total limit. Immediate family members traveling on the same itinerary are also covered.

What's not covered
  • Items not reported missing to the carrier
  • Business goods, perishables, cash, and tickets
  • Damage due to wear and tear or inherent defect

Personal liability coverage while traveling is not included with this card.

Hotel theft protection is not available with the Chase British Airways Visa Signature. If personal belongings are stolen from a hotel room during your trip, this card does not provide reimbursement.

$600/year in statement credits more than covers the fee

I book two or three BA award tickets a year and use the card to pay the taxes and fees. The $600 in annual statement credits has offset the annual fee three times over. The card pays for itself easily if you fly British Airways regularly.

Unbeatable value for Caribbean routes

Used the sign-up bonus for two roundtrips to the Caribbean from JFK with zero taxes on both. For short routes out of New York or Miami the Avios value is excellent. Just avoid using them for BA flights to London because of the fuel surcharges.

No trip cancellation is a dealbreaker

I got sick before a trip and realized this card offers zero trip cancellation protection. I ended up eating $800 in non-refundable expenses. The Sapphire Reserve would have covered that. Now I only keep this card for the Avios balance.

Fuel surcharges make the Avios less valuable than they look

I redeemed 65,000 Avios for a transatlantic economy ticket and still paid over $300 in carrier charges. On some routes you would be better off booking a cash ticket. The card is good for short-haul partner redemptions but not for BA longhaul.

FAQ

What people ask about the Chase Chase British Airways Visa Signature

  • The Chase British Airways Visa Signature provides limited travel insurance compared to premium travel cards. It covers baggage delay (up to $300 total), lost luggage (up to $3,000 per traveler), and Travel Accident Insurance (up to $500,000 for common carrier accidents). However, it does not include trip cancellation, trip delay, emergency medical expenses abroad, or emergency evacuation coverage. If comprehensive travel insurance is a priority, this card is best paired with a card like the Chase Sapphire Reserve or a standalone travel insurance policy.
  • No, the Chase British Airways Visa Signature does not include trip cancellation or trip interruption insurance. If your trip is canceled or cut short due to illness, a family emergency, or another covered reason, this card will not reimburse your prepaid, non-refundable expenses. This is a notable gap compared to other Chase travel cards. The Chase Sapphire Preferred and Chase Sapphire Reserve both include trip cancellation coverage of up to $10,000 per person.
  • To file a claim, contact the benefit administrator at 1-800-349-2634 (U.S.) or 001-214-503-2951 (international, collect). You can also file online at chasecardbenefits.com. Notification deadlines vary by benefit: for baggage delay and lost luggage, notify within 20 days of the incident. For rental CDW claims, the deadline is 100 days. For purchase protection and extended warranty, you have 90 days from the incident. Collect your card statement, purchase receipts, and any carrier documentation before submitting.
  • The rental car CDW coverage is secondary in the United States, which means your personal auto insurance is billed first. The card then covers remaining eligible costs up to $60,000. If you travel outside the United States, or if you do not carry personal auto insurance, the coverage automatically becomes primary. To activate the benefit, you must pay the full rental cost with your card and decline the rental agency's own collision damage waiver at the counter.
  • Lost Luggage Reimbursement covers up to $3,000 per covered traveler when checked or carry-on bags are lost, damaged, or stolen by a common carrier. Sub-limits apply: $500 for jewelry and watches, and $500 for cameras and electronics. The benefit covers the primary cardholder and immediate family members traveling on the same itinerary. Residents of New York have a different limit of $2,000 per bag and $10,000 total. Coverage is secondary, meaning it pays after airline compensation and any other applicable insurance.
  • No, the Chase British Airways Visa Signature does not cover emergency medical expenses abroad. The card includes a Travel and Emergency Assistance benefit, but this is a referral service only. It can help you locate a local hospital, physician, or legal resource, but it does not pay any medical bills. If you need medical coverage while traveling internationally, you should purchase a separate travel health insurance plan or use a card that includes emergency medical benefits.
  • Travel Accident Insurance provides up to $500,000 for accidental death or dismemberment (loss of a limb, sight, hearing, or speech) that occurs during a common carrier trip paid with the card. A separate 24-hour benefit covers up to $100,000 for the duration of a covered trip, up to 30 days. Both benefits cover the cardholder and eligible family members. Claims must be reported within 20 days of the incident by calling 1-800-349-2634 or visiting chasecardbenefits.com.
