Covers the non-refundable portion of prepaid travel and accommodation you cannot recover, up to a total of $10,000, with a $400 excess per claim. The covered-reasons list is broad: illness or injury, a relative's death or serious illness, carrier cancellation from strikes or weather, natural disasters, quarantine and more. Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Our take on travel insurance for the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum
Strong overseas medical. No domestic cover, and pre-existing conditions are out. Here is what the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum travel insurance actually does. Charge $500 of prepaid travel to the card, hold a return ticket, and the overseas cover is genuinely good: $20 million for emergency medical and evacuation, $10,000 cancellation, a $400 excess on most claims. Most cardholders assume holding the card is enough. It isn't. Book on points and let only the taxes hit the card, and the cover may never switch on. Two things bite hard: any pre-existing condition is excluded outright, with no assessment option, and cover stops at 40 days per trip. A standalone travel policy usually covers pre-existing conditions after assessment and runs well past 40 days. If you take short overseas trips and always charge them to the card, the cover earns its place. If you travel with a managed health condition or for longer than six weeks, read the exclusions first.
- Overseas emergency medical and evacuation up to $20,000,000, with a $400 excess per claim
- Cancellation up to $10,000 with a broad covered-reasons list, from illness to strikes and natural disasters
- Personal liability overseas up to $2,250,000, and accidental death up to $25,000 per person
- No ING international transaction fees on overseas or online spend, on a card built for travel
- Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded outright, with no assessment or auto-covered list
- Cover is overseas only: no interstate or domestic travel insurance at all
- Activation by spend: no cover unless you charge $500 of prepaid travel to the card and hold a return ticket
- Cover stops at 40 consecutive days per trip, so a longer trip is uninsured past day 40

What cardholders say about the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum
Verbatim experiences with the Allianz complimentary credit-card travel cover that also underwrites this card 30 reviews

Treated like a premium client
I have made 3 claims on complimentary policies in recent years (ANZ-Allianz and CBA - Covermore). In all cases I was treated like a premium client not a leper.
gaz0303 (Australian Frequent Flyer)
Slow, repeated document requests
They take 10 days to respond to a claim, and on the 10th day, ask a clarifying question. 10 days post answering, they come back with additional requests for info they already have. All up, it took just under 40 days for my claim to be assessed.

Read the fine print on card cover
Be careful not to rely on credit card insurance when you travel nationally or internally. Allianz will use any loop hole not to pay out.

How to make an ING Orange One Rewards Platinum claim
Step 1: Call the 24/7 Allianz Global Assistance line before treatment where possible
For a medical emergency, evacuation or large expense overseas, call +61 7 3305 7499 before you incur the cost so Allianz can approve it. Within Australia the emergency line is 1800 010 075.
Step 2: Lodge the claim and gather your documents
Lodge online at claimmanager.com.au or call 1800 754 190 as soon as reasonably possible. Keep itemised accounts, police or carrier reports for lost luggage, and your rental agreement showing the excess charged.
Step 3: Prove the trip was charged to the card
Include the card statement showing at least $500 of prepaid travel was charged to the account, the condition that activates cover. Allianz aims to consider a completed claim within 10 business days.
What people ask about the ING Orange One Rewards Platinum
- The overseas cover switches on when you spend at least $500 of your prepaid travel costs on the card and hold a return overseas ticket, before you leave Australia. Prepaid travel means your return flights, prepaid accommodation, a cruise or a tour, charged to the card account. There is no separate registration step, but holding the card alone does not insure you. You also need to reside in Australia, and no one aged 85 or over is covered. If you book flights on points and only the taxes hit the card, that may not meet the $500 spend condition, so check before you rely on the cover.
- Cover extends to the cardholder, plus a spouse or de facto partner and dependants, when each person meets the eligibility on their own. Each must reside in Australia, travel with the cardholder for at least half the journey, have at least $500 of their own prepaid travel charged to the card, and hold a return overseas ticket. Dependants under two are covered when travelling with the cardholder. When you travel together, only one eligible person can claim a benefit that is payable to a cardholder, so a couple cannot both claim the same loss twice.
- It reimburses the rental excess you are liable for after an overseas hire car is damaged or stolen, up to the lesser of your agreement excess or $2,250, with a $400 excess per claim. Excess is the amount the hire company makes you pay towards the damage, and this benefit refunds it, it does not waive the damage. The cover applies to overseas hires during your journey only. There is no cover for cars hired in Australia, so a prang in a domestic hire car leaves the full excess on you. Charges for tyres, glass, roof or underbody beyond the stated excess are not included.
- Claims go through Allianz Global Assistance, the administrator behind the policy, lodged online at claimmanager.com.au or by calling 1800 754 190 within Australia. Give notice as soon as reasonably possible, and Allianz aims to consider a completed claim within 10 business days. Keep the documents that prove the loss: itemised medical accounts, a report to the police or carrier for lost luggage, your rental agreement and the excess charged, and your card statement showing the trip was charged. For anything medical or a big expense overseas, call the 24-hour line on +61 7 3305 7499 before you incur the cost. Activation is the first thing they check.
- The biggest gap is that cover is overseas only, with no interstate or domestic travel insurance at all. Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded outright, for you, a travelling companion or a relative, with no assessment option to add them back. Cover does not switch on unless you charged at least $500 of prepaid travel to the card and hold a return ticket, and it stops after 40 consecutive days per trip. There is no rental excess for Australian hires, no purchase protection, no extended warranty and no mobile phone insurance. Off-piste skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling are also excluded.
- No. The Orange One Rewards Platinum excludes any claim arising from, related to or associated with a pre-existing medical condition, whether it is yours, a travelling companion's or a relative's. Unlike many standalone policies, there is no auto-covered list of stable conditions and no option to have a condition assessed and added for a fee. A pre-existing condition means anything you had symptoms, diagnosis or treatment for before you became eligible for cover. If you manage an ongoing condition, a standalone travel policy that assesses and covers pre-existing conditions is the safer choice for overseas trips.
- No. The ING Orange One Rewards Platinum does not include mobile phone insurance. Its complimentary cover is international travel insurance only, so theft of or accidental damage to your phone is not covered on this card. A cracked flagship screen commonly costs $200 to $600 to repair, and a full replacement runs $1,200 to $2,300, all out of pocket. If phone cover matters to you, a dedicated gadget or mobile policy, or your home contents insurance, would fill that gap.
- On-piste skiing and snowboarding are covered under the overseas travel policy by default, because they are not on the excluded-activities list. Off-piste skiing, off-piste snowboarding and snowmobiling are excluded, so a claim from skiing outside the marked runs would be declined. Your ski equipment is not separately insured while in use, and sporting equipment in use is not covered for damage. Racing and training for prize money above $1,000 are also excluded. If you plan backcountry runs, a dedicated snow policy is the safer option.
- For short overseas trips that you charge to the card, the cover does a real job: $20,000,000 for emergency medical and evacuation, $10,000 cancellation, and rental excess overseas. It falls short in three ways that matter. Pre-existing conditions are excluded outright, there is no cover for interstate travel within Australia, and a single trip is capped at 40 days. If you travel with a managed health condition, take domestic trips, or stay away longer than six weeks, a standalone travel insurance policy would fill those gaps. Treat the card cover as a useful base for short overseas trips, not a full replacement.
