Our opinion on AAA Daily Advantage Travel Insurance

Pauline Laurore
Expert review · Pauline LauroreAuthor of HelloSafe's card insurance reviews

Zero travel insurance. CDW on rentals. Here's what those two facts mean every time you book a trip with this card. The AAA Daily Advantage card's Guide to Benefits is five pages. It covers rental car collision damage waiver and emergency referral services. No trip cancellation, no emergency medical, no baggage delay, no lost luggage, no travel accident coverage of any kind. Most cardholders assume a Visa Signature card includes travel accident insurance as a network standard. Bread Financial has not included those additional benefits on this card. The guide confirms it in five pages. For a no-annual-fee card built around the aaa daily advantage card benefits of 5% grocery cashback, that positioning is consistent. The coverage story ends with CDW.Standalone travel insurance for a single international trip starts around $15. Emergency medical coverage starts at $100,000 per person. The math is clear for anyone booking a non-refundable trip.If this card stays in your wallet for grocery runs, the insurance gap is irrelevant. If you charge a non-refundable flight to this card, every dollar of risk is yours.

What works on travel
  • Secondary CDW on rentals: actual cash value coverage, becomes primary outside the US when you decline the counter CDW
  • 24/7 Travel and Emergency Assistance referrals: help finding local doctors, attorneys, and emergency logistics worldwide
Where travel breaks down
  • No trip cancellation or interruption: all non-refundable travel bookings are at full cardholder risk
  • No emergency medical abroad: a single ER visit in Japan or Europe runs $10,000 to $80,000 with zero reimbursement
  • No baggage delay or lost luggage coverage: essentials during a delay and bag replacement are entirely out of pocket
  • No travel accident insurance: accidental death or injury on a Common Carrier is not covered by this card

Good no-fee card for groceries: CDW works but it is secondary

Had this card two years for the 3% on groceries and pharmacies. Used the CDW once renting in Canada. Visa benefits paid back about $400 in three weeks with no real hassle. In the US it's secondary, so I had to loop in my auto insurance first. Manageable for a free card.

No trip cancellation is a real gap for travelers

Found out too late there is zero trip cancellation on this card. Flight cancelled, hotel non-refundable, lost about $600. The card covers accidents on planes, not cancellations. Fine for daily spending, but add standalone travel insurance if you book prepaid trips.

Guide to Benefits is 5 pages covering almost nothing

Received the Guide to Benefits from Bread Financial. Five pages. Covers only the rental car CDW and emergency referral services. No purchase protection, no extended warranty, no travel accident insurance. Fine for the grocery cashback. Do not rely on this card for any protection coverage.

FAQ

What people ask about the AAA Daily Advantage

  • No. Trip cancellation coverage is not included with this card. The card's Guide to Benefits (ACG-CONS-VS, effective May 2026) covers only Auto Rental CDW and Travel and Emergency Assistance referrals. You would need to purchase a standalone travel insurance policy to protect prepaid, non-refundable trip costs.
  • No. Travel accident insurance is not included with the AAA Daily Advantage card. The card's benefit guide covers only Auto Rental CDW and Travel and Emergency Assistance referral services. No lump-sum payment is available in the event of accidental death or dismemberment on a Common Carrier or during any other travel incident.
  • Yes. Auto Rental CDW covers theft and collision damage up to the actual cash value of the vehicle (no stated dollar cap). In the United States, coverage is secondary: your personal auto insurance pays first and the card covers what remains, including your deductible. Outside the US, coverage becomes primary. Decline the rental company's CDW at the counter and charge the full rental to the card. US rentals are covered up to 15 consecutive days; international rentals up to 31 days. Israel, Jamaica, Republic of Ireland, and Northern Ireland are excluded. Claims: call 1-800-348-8472 or visit cardclaimcenter.com within 45 days.
  • No. Neither baggage delay nor lost luggage reimbursement is included with the AAA Daily Advantage card. The card's Guide to Benefits covers only Auto Rental CDW and Travel and Emergency Assistance referrals. If the carrier delays or loses your bags, all costs for essential purchases and replacement items are your responsibility.
  • No. Emergency medical reimbursement is not included with this card. Travel and Emergency Assistance Services can refer you to local English-speaking doctors and hospitals, but every dollar of medical treatment is your responsibility. A single ER visit in Japan or Europe typically runs $10,000 to $80,000. For international travel, a standalone travel insurance policy with at least $100,000 in emergency medical coverage is a practical necessity this card does not provide.
  • No. Purchase protection is not included with the AAA Daily Advantage card. The card's Guide to Benefits (ACG-CONS-VS, effective May 2026) covers only Auto Rental CDW and Travel and Emergency Assistance referrals. There is no coverage for theft or accidental damage to new purchases of any kind. Multiple cardholder accounts and reviews confirm purchase protection is absent from this card's benefit package.
  • No. Extended warranty protection is not included with the AAA Daily Advantage card. The card's Guide to Benefits covers only Auto Rental CDW and Travel and Emergency Assistance. Manufacturer warranty coverage on items you purchase ends when the original warranty expires. If you buy appliances or electronics expecting warranty extension, this card does not provide it.
  • For Auto Rental CDW claims, call 1-800-348-8472 or visit cardclaimcenter.com within 45 days of the incident. For Travel and Emergency Assistance referrals, call 1-800-992-6029 in the United States or collect at 1-804-673-1675 internationally. For general benefit questions, call 1-800-397-9010 in the United States or collect at 1-303-967-1093. These are the only benefit contacts because the AAA Daily Advantage card includes only Auto Rental CDW and Travel and Emergency Assistance referral services.
  • Visa Signature Roadside Dispatch is available but operates as a pay-per-use service, not a free insurance benefit. You can call for towing, battery jump starts, tire changes, lockout service, and fuel delivery 24 hours a day across the US and Canada. All service fees are charged at the time of dispatch. There is no reimbursement or free dispatch covered by the card.
  • The AAA Daily Advantage Visa Signature card's Guide to Benefits (ACG-CONS-VS, effective May 1, 2026) is five pages and covers exactly two items: Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver and Travel and Emergency Assistance Services. The CDW covers theft and collision damage on rental cars up to actual cash value. Travel and Emergency Assistance is a referral service only, with all actual costs the cardholder's responsibility. There is no trip cancellation, emergency medical, baggage, travel accident, purchase protection, or extended warranty on this card.
