Our take on travel insurance for the Chase Ink Business Cash

Pauline Laurore
Expert review · Pauline LauroreAuthor of HelloSafe's card insurance reviews

Your flight is delayed ten hours. The Chase Ink Business Cash card does not cover it. No trip delay, no trip cancellation, no emergency medical. On a $0 fee business card, that absence is expected. What is in the guide: baggage delay at $100 per day for up to three days after the first six-hour wait, lost or damaged luggage up to $3,000 per traveler per trip, and Travel Accident Insurance at $500,000 for common carrier accidents. Cameras, jewelry, and electronics in your bags are sub-capped at $500 per item. Coverage for baggage is secondary. Standalone travel medical starts at $100,000 per person for international trips. If you travel on business domestically and want your luggage covered, this card does the job. If you need trip cancellation or emergency medical abroad, this card does not provide it.

What works on travel
  • Lost luggage covered up to $3,000 per traveler per trip: checked and carry-on bags both eligible
  • Baggage delay covers essential purchases at $100 per day for up to 3 days after a 6-hour delay
  • Travel Accident Insurance pays $500,000 on common carriers: covers cardholder, family members, and employees
Where travel breaks down
  • No trip cancellation or interruption: non-refundable bookings are fully at risk
  • No emergency medical coverage abroad: all hospital costs are the cardholder's responsibility
  • No trip delay reimbursement: meals and lodging during a delay are out of pocket
  • Lost luggage sub-caps cameras, jewelry, and electronics at $500 per item

Primary CDW saved me on a business rental

Rented a car for a client visit and declined the CDW at the counter. Charged the rental to my Ink Business Cash. Got a minor scratch on the bumper returning the car. Filed through chasecardbenefits.com. Since the rental was for business use, the coverage was primary: I did not involve my personal auto insurance at all. Approved within three weeks. The daily CDW savings alone cover what this card costs, which is nothing.

Extended warranty claim took longer after October 2024 admin change

Had a monitor fail 13 months in. Filed under extended warranty through the new chasecardbenefits.com portal. Chase changed their benefit administrator in October 2024, which created some confusion at first. The rep had to re-verify my card was eligible under the new guide. Eventually processed but took six weeks. Keep your original warranty documentation and receipt together before you need them. They asked for both plus a repair estimate from a certified facility.

Purchase protection denied: disappeared items are not covered

Lost a camera bag somewhere between the hotel and the airport on a business trip. Filed a purchase protection claim on the Ink Business Cash card. Denied. The reason: items that mysteriously disappear with no evidence of a wrongful act are explicitly excluded. The guide calls this category items that vanish without a police report or evidence of theft. If there is nothing to show theft or an accident occurred, the claim will not be approved.

FAQ

What people ask about the Chase Ink Business Cash

  • Most Chase Ink Business Cash travel benefits activate automatically when you pay with the card. For Auto Rental Coverage, charge the full rental to the card and decline the rental agency's collision damage waiver at the counter. For Baggage Delay and Lost Luggage insurance, charge all or part of your common carrier fare (flight, train, or cruise) to the card. For Purchase Protection and Extended Warranty, simply pay for the item with the card. Travel Accident Insurance activates when you charge the common carrier fare to the card. No pre-registration is required for any benefit.
  • Auto Rental Coverage applies to the cardholder and any additional drivers authorized on the rental agreement. Baggage Delay Insurance, Lost Luggage Reimbursement, Purchase Protection, Extended Warranty, and Travel Accident Insurance all cover the cardholder, their family members (spouse or domestic partner and dependent children), and person(s) employed by the company for which the card account is issued. Family Members do not need to be present for coverage to apply to their purchased items under Purchase Protection or Extended Warranty.
  • At the rental counter, decline the collision damage waiver (CDW/LDW). Pay the entire rental with your Chase Ink Business Cash card. For business use in the United States, coverage is primary: file directly with the benefit administrator with no personal auto insurer involvement. For personal use in the United States, coverage is secondary: your personal auto insurance pays first. Outside the United States, coverage is always primary. The vehicle cap is $60,000 and rentals must not exceed 31 consecutive days. File claims within 100 days at chasecardbenefits.com or call 1-800-349-4814.
  • All claims go through chasecardbenefits.com or by calling 1-800-349-4814. For emergencies abroad, call 001-214-503-2951 collect. Auto Rental Coverage: notify within 100 days, submit all documents within 365 days. Baggage Delay: report to the airline before leaving the airport, then file within 20 days, submit documents within 90 days. Lost Luggage: notify the carrier, then file within 20 days, submit within 90 days. Purchase Protection: file within 90 days of the loss, submit within 120 days. Extended Warranty: file within 90 days of the product failure, submit documentation within 120 days. All claims are handled by Virginia Surety Company, Inc. (Assurant) effective October 1, 2024.
  • The Chase Ink Business Cash card does not include trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, emergency medical coverage abroad, or medical evacuation. Baggage Delay does not cover jewelry, cameras, electronics, recreational equipment, or business samples. Lost Luggage caps cameras, jewelry, watches, and electronic equipment at $500 per item. Auto Rental Coverage excludes personal liability, personal injury, and damage to third-party vehicles. Purchase Protection excludes mysterious disappearance and items in the care of a common carrier. There is no cell phone protection, return protection, or price protection benefit.
  • No. The Chase Ink Business Cash card does not include emergency medical insurance abroad. The Travel and Emergency Assistance line at 1-800-349-4814 is available 24 hours a day and can refer you to local medical providers, help with language barriers, and assist with emergency logistics. However, the assistance service reimburses nothing. All medical bills abroad are the cardholder's financial responsibility. For international business travel, carrying separate travel medical insurance with at least $100,000 in emergency coverage is worth considering.
  • No. The Chase Ink Business Cash card does not include trip cancellation or trip interruption insurance. If you need to cancel a business trip, prepaid and non-refundable flights, hotels, and other bookings are not reimbursable through this card. The Chase Ink Business Preferred credit card does include trip cancellation insurance. If trip cancellation coverage is important for your business travel, consider carrying a separate travel insurance policy for trips with significant non-refundable costs.
  • Extended Warranty Protection adds one additional year to the original U.S. manufacturer repair warranty on eligible purchases. The original warranty, plus any purchased service contract, must not exceed three years combined to qualify. Maximum total coverage is four years from the purchase date. The benefit pays up to $10,000 per item and $50,000 per calendar year. Charge the item to the card, keep the original receipt and warranty documentation, and file at chasecardbenefits.com within 90 days of the product failure. Submit all documents within 120 days.
  • No. Cell phone protection is not included with the Chase Ink Business Cash card. If your phone is stolen or accidentally damaged, repair and replacement costs are entirely your responsibility. Screen repair on a flagship smartphone typically runs $200 to $400. Device replacement runs $800 to $1,300. Cell phone protection is available on some higher-tier business cards that require you to pay your monthly wireless bill with the card. The Chase Ink Business Cash card does not include this benefit.
