Broader cancel scope than the Premier. Still no medical coverage. Here is what those two facts actually mean for a Strata Elite cardholder. The Enhanced Trip Cancellation covers all nonrefundable costs paid to any Travel Supplier: flights, hotels, tours, and cruise packages, for up to $5,000 per trip. Eight covered reasons apply, including financial insolvency of the Travel Supplier (capped at $100 per claim). One-way travel without a return destination is explicitly excluded: the policy requires a round-trip itinerary. The $500 trip delay benefit kicks in after 6 hours for weather, equipment failure, or a lost passport, capped at 2 claims per 12-month period. The critical gap: no emergency medical or evacuation coverage at any price. A single hospitalization abroad runs $10,000 to $80,000. Standalone travel insurance with medical starts at $200 to $500 per international trip. Filing goes through Sedgwick at mycardbenefits.com or 1-833-251-6404. Report within 60 days of the covered loss.

What works on travel
  • $5,000 Enhanced Trip Cancellation per trip: covers all Travel Supplier costs including hotels and tours. Eight covered reasons. Round-trip required. Zero deductible.
  • $5,000 lost or damaged luggage per trip: higher cap than the Strata Premier. Max 2 claims per year.
  • $500 trip delay after 6 hours: covers meals, lodging, and essentials. Max 2 claims per year.
Where travel breaks down
  • No emergency medical or evacuation: all costs abroad are entirely out of pocket. A single ER visit runs $10,000 to $80,000 at a $595 annual fee card.
  • Round-trip required for trip cancellation: one-way travel without a return destination is explicitly excluded. Full trip cost must be on the card.
  • Financial insolvency of Travel Supplier capped at $100 per claim: symbolic protection for a rare but real risk.

Enhanced cancel scope is the real upgrade

The biggest real-world difference between the Strata Premier and Strata Elite on travel protection is the cancel scope. Hotels and tour bookings are actually reimbursable on the Elite. Eight covered reasons vs one on the Premier. That alone changes the math on a hotel-heavy international trip.

No medical at $595 is hard to justify

For a $595 annual fee card, the absence of any emergency medical or evacuation coverage is a real problem. Competing cards at lower price points include it. The Enhanced Trip Cancellation is useful but it does not cover you in a hospital abroad.

How to file a Citi Strata Elite claim

1

Step 1: Notify within 24 hours (baggage) or 60 days (all others)

For baggage claims, notify the Common Carrier within 24 hours of the loss. For all other claims, open a claim at mycardbenefits.com or call Sedgwick at 1-833-251-6404 within 60 days of the covered loss.

2

Step 2: Gather your documentation

Collect your card billing statement showing the Covered Trip charge, Travel Supplier receipts, and documentation of the covered reason: physician's order for illness, military orders, court subpoena for jury duty, or Common Carrier notice for delays. For rental claims: rental agreement, police report, and repair estimate.

3

Step 3: Submit proof of loss within 180 days

Submit written proof of loss to Sedgwick within 180 days of the date of your loss. Claims reported after 60 days may not be honored. Keep the damaged item in case you are asked to return it for salvage review. File the day the incident happens, not when you return home.

FAQ

What people ask about the Citi Strata Elite

  • No activation is required for Citi Strata Elite benefits. Enhanced Trip Cancellation and Interruption coverage activates automatically when you charge the full cost of a round-trip Covered Trip to your card or in combination with ThankYou Points. One-way travel without a return destination is explicitly excluded. Rental car CDW activates when you decline the rental agency's CDW at the counter and charge the entire rental to your card. Purchase Assurance Plus and Extended Warranty apply automatically at the point of purchase. There is no enrollment form or registration required for any travel or shopping benefit.
  • Travel benefits cover the account holder, authorized users, and their Immediate Family Members traveling on the same covered trip. Immediate Family Members include your spouse, Domestic Partner, and unmarried children up to age 19 (or 26 if enrolled full-time at an accredited institution). Traveling Companions who have made advance arrangements to travel together and charged their portion to a covered card account may also qualify. MasterRental CDW covers the eligible renter named as primary driver on the rental agreement and any authorized driver listed in the rental car agreement.
  • At the agency counter, decline the rental company's CDW or LDW option, then charge the full rental cost to your Citi Strata Elite card. Coverage applies to collision, overturn, vandalism, theft, and physical damage to the vehicle. Payout is at actual cash value (ACV): the depreciated market value at the time of loss. In the United States, coverage is secondary: your personal auto insurance pays first. Outside your country of residence, coverage is primary. Both domestic and international rentals are capped at 31 consecutive days. The benefit also covers up to 2 tows from the scene and loss-of-use charges up to $500. Report any loss and file at mycardbenefits.com or call Sedgwick at 1-833-251-6404 within 60 days.
  • All Citi Strata Elite benefit claims go through Sedgwick at mycardbenefits.com or 1-833-251-6404. For travel benefits, report the claim within 60 days of the covered loss. Required documents include your card billing statement, Travel Supplier receipts, and documentation of the covered reason. Submit written proof of loss within 180 days. For Purchase Assurance Plus and Extended Warranty claims, report within 60 days at the same Sedgwick portal. Keep the damaged item in case you are asked to return it for salvage review.
  • Despite the $595 annual fee, the Citi Strata Elite has significant gaps. There is no emergency medical or evacuation coverage: all hospital and air ambulance costs abroad are entirely out of pocket. One-way travel is excluded from trip cancellation: the policy requires a round-trip itinerary. There is no baggage delay benefit, no cell phone protection, and no travel accident insurance. Financial insolvency of a Travel Supplier is covered but capped at $100 per claim. Pre-existing conditions within 60 days of trip purchase are excluded. Rental car CDW is secondary in the United States. Electronics and jewelry are excluded from baggage coverage.
  • Standard trip cancellation on most credit cards covers only Common Carrier costs: flights, trains, and buses. The Citi Strata Elite's Enhanced Trip Cancellation covers all costs paid to any Travel Supplier, including hotels, tours, cruise packages, and any other prepaid arrangements. This means a $4,000 hotel-heavy international trip is fully eligible for reimbursement, not just the airfare portion. Eight covered reasons apply, compared to one or two on basic cards. The $5,000 per-trip cap applies to the combined Travel Supplier costs. The round-trip requirement still applies: one-way travel without a return destination is excluded.
  • Yes. The card reimburses reasonable additional expenses up to $500 per trip when your covered Common Carrier is delayed more than 6 hours. Covered expenses include meals, lodging, toiletries, and medication. Three delay causes qualify: inclement weather, Common Carrier equipment failure, and lost or stolen passports or travel documents. The benefit is capped at 2 claims per 12-month period. Operational cancellations, staffing issues, and FAA groundstops do not qualify as covered delay causes. File at mycardbenefits.com within 60 days of the delay.
  • The Citi Strata Elite's Extended Warranty doubles the original manufacturer's or store warranty on eligible items with an original warranty of 24 months or less, purchased entirely with the card or ThankYou Points. For example, a product with a 1-year manufacturer's warranty receives an additional 12 months of coverage, and a 2-year warranty receives an additional 24 months. Maximum coverage is $10,000 per item. Coverage begins immediately after the original warranty expires. File at mycardbenefits.com or call 1-833-251-6404 within 60 days of the product failure. Keep your original purchase receipt and warranty documentation.
  • No. Cell phone protection is not included with the Citi Strata Elite. Screen damage, theft, and mechanical failure on your phone are not covered, even if you purchased the phone with the card. This is a notable gap at the $595 annual fee tier, where competing premium cards increasingly include cell phone protection. Screen repairs on modern smartphones typically run $150 to $500. For cell phone coverage, you would need a standalone device insurance plan.
