The Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard does not include trip cancellation insurance. This card carries no Certificate of Insurance — there is no insurer attached to it and no claims process to follow. If you need to cancel a prepaid trip due to illness, death in the family, or another covered reason, no reimbursement is available through this card. For trip cancellation coverage, consider a card from a different product family or a standalone travel insurance policy.

What cardholders say about the Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard
Real feedback from Canadian cardholders about coverage — and the lack of it. 4 reviews
Perfect for Canadian Tire shopping, useless for travel
I use my Triangle Mastercard every time I shop at Canadian Tire and it racks up CT Money fast, especially in the bonus categories. But I would never rely on it for travel — it has zero insurance. I found that out the hard way when I went to look up my coverage before a trip and there was literally nothing to find.
Great free card, but pair it with something that has real coverage
For a $0 annual fee card you cannot really complain about the Triangle Mastercard for everyday spending. But there is no travel medical, no rental coverage, no purchase protection whatsoever. I keep it as a secondary card for CT purchases and use a card with actual insurance whenever I need protection.
A lot of people don't realize this card has zero coverage
I see Canadians asking all the time whether the Triangle Mastercard covers car rentals or medical expenses. The answer is no, full stop. Important to know that before you travel or rent a car with it. Step up to the World version if you need CDW, or just get a different card entirely for anything insurance-related.
Good rewards at CT and partner stores, just know what you are getting
The Triangle Mastercard earns well at Canadian Tire and partner stores, which is genuinely useful if you shop there often. Just understand going in that this is a pure rewards card with no insurance attached. Nothing for travel, nothing for rentals, nothing for purchases. It does what it says, nothing more.

What people ask about the Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard
- No. The Canadian Tire Triangle Mastercard has no insurance coverage of any kind. Unlike the Triangle World Mastercard and Triangle World Elite Mastercard, the base Triangle card carries no Certificate of Insurance and no insurer is attached to it. There is no travel medical coverage, no trip cancellation, no flight delay protection, no rental car CDW, and no purchase security.
- No. The Triangle Mastercard includes no emergency travel medical insurance. If you fall ill or are injured outside Canada, all medical expenses are entirely out of pocket. There is no partial coverage, no reduced benefit at any age — simply no coverage at all. Any Canadian who travels internationally with this card as their primary payment method should arrange standalone travel medical insurance before departure.
- No. The Triangle Mastercard is a base Mastercard — not a World Mastercard — and does not include collision damage waiver (CDW) or any rental car benefit. CDW is available on the Triangle World Mastercard and Triangle World Elite Mastercard, both underwritten by Assurant. If you rent a vehicle with the base Triangle Mastercard, you must purchase the rental agency's collision coverage or use a card that includes CDW.
- The difference is significant. The base Triangle Mastercard has zero insurance. The Triangle World Mastercard adds rental car CDW plus purchase security and extended warranty. The Triangle World Elite Mastercard adds those same benefits plus roadside assistance (Gold level) and concierge service. Critically, none of the three Triangle cards include travel medical insurance, trip cancellation, or flight delay protection — those coverages are absent from the entire Triangle card family.
- No. Purchase security and extended warranty are not included on the base Triangle Mastercard. These benefits are exclusive to the World and World Elite tiers. If you purchase an item with the Triangle Mastercard and it is stolen or damaged within a short period, you have no recourse through this card.
- If you need genuine travel insurance built into a credit card, look beyond the Triangle family. Canadian cards with meaningful travel coverage typically come from American Express, Scotiabank, RBC, TD, or BMO and offer emergency medical, trip cancellation, and flight delay protection. For rental car CDW specifically, the Triangle World or World Elite Mastercard provide that benefit at no annual fee — but they do not offer travel medical or trip cancellation.
- The Triangle Mastercard is an entry-level rewards card designed for earning Canadian Tire Money (Triangle Rewards). Canadian Tire Bank does not attach an insurance certificate to this tier. Insurance coverage — including CDW and purchase protection — is reserved for the World and World Elite tiers, which carry higher credit requirements. If you want insurance benefits within the Triangle card family, you need to qualify for the World or World Elite level.
