No trip cancellation coverage. This card carries no travel insurance certificate, only purchase and rental protection. Any prepaid flights, tours, or hotels you lose to a cancellation are entirely out of pocket.

Our Verdict · Travel Insurance
Our take on travel insurance for the Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard
No travel insurance. None at all. The Triangle World Elite Mastercard is built around rewards, rental coverage, and roadside, and its certificate says nothing about emergency medical, trip cancellation, or flight delay. Plenty of cardholders assume a World Elite tier comes with travel medical: this one does not, at any age. Board a flight on this card and every hospital bill abroad and every cancelled deposit is yours to absorb. If you travel outside your province, add a standalone travel medical policy before you go.
- Certificate is honest: it never advertises travel medical it does not provide
- No emergency medical: every hospital bill abroad is yours
- No trip cancellation or interruption: lost prepaid deposits are not refunded
- No flight or baggage delay: meals and hotels during a delay are out of pocket
Every score is derived from official bank documents: terms and conditions, benefit guides, and claim procedures. No commercial relationship influences our ratings.

What does Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard Travel Insurance actually cover?
No emergency medical coverage. The Triangle World Elite certificate covers purchases and car rentals only, not travel medical. Hospital and physician bills outside your province are the cardholder's responsibility.
No emergency evacuation or repatriation coverage. This card includes no travel medical insurance of any kind. Air ambulance costs, which can pass $100,000 from a remote location, are entirely yours.
No trip interruption coverage. If a trip is cut short by illness or a family emergency, the unused prepaid portion and extra travel home are not reimbursed. This card protects purchases and rentals, not trips.
No travel delay benefit. A delayed or cancelled flight does not trigger any meal or hotel reimbursement here. Those costs during a long delay are out of pocket.
No missed connection coverage. If a late inbound flight makes you miss a connection, rebooking and extra accommodation are not covered. This card has no travel insurance certificate.
No early return benefit. The cost of flying home early for a family emergency is not reimbursed. This card covers purchases and rentals, not travel disruptions.
No baggage delay coverage. When checked bags arrive late, the essentials you buy in the meantime are not reimbursed. This benefit is not included with this card.
No lost or stolen baggage coverage. Luggage lost, stolen, or damaged by an airline is not compensated through this card. Any replacement cost is the cardholder's responsibility.
No travel accident or common carrier AD&D coverage. There is no accidental death or dismemberment benefit while traveling on a plane, train, or bus. This card carries no travel insurance certificate.
No hotel burglary coverage. Belongings stolen from your hotel room while traveling are not covered. This benefit is not included with this card.

Frugal Flyer
Free roadside Gold is the real perk
The complimentary Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance Gold membership, normally about $99.95 a year, plus a primary rental collision waiver for up to 31 days, make this a strong card for road trips given the $0 annual fee.
Money We Have
Thin coverage for actual travel
There is no emergency travel medical, no trip cancellation, and no flight delay coverage on this card. Anyone counting on a World Elite tier for travel protection abroad is exposed and needs a separate policy.

Rental cap trails premium cards
The rental collision coverage stops at a $65,000 MSRP and 31 days, below the $85,000 and 48 days premium travel cards offer, and there is no cell phone insurance. Useful, but not a substitute for a full travel-rewards card.

How to file a Triangle World Elite Mastercard claim
Step 1: Call the insurer right away
Phone Assurant at 1-800-797-8389 as soon as a loss happens. For a damaged or stolen rental, you must report within 48 hours. For purchase security, report within 90 days of the loss and before any repair.
Step 2: Keep your receipts and reports
Hold on to the original sales receipt, the card statement showing the charge, the rental agreement, and any police or loss report. A police report is required when rental damage or theft tops $1,000.
Step 3: Complete and submit the claim form
The insurer sends a claim form to fill in with the time, place, cause, and amount of the loss. Submit it with full proof of claim within one year of the loss, or the claim will not be paid.
Step 4: For roadside, call Canadian Tire
Roadside service is separate. Call Canadian Tire Roadside Assistance at 1-888-727-7478, after activating the Gold plan at triangle.com with code TRIANGLE.
What people ask about the Canadian Tire Triangle World Elite Mastercard
- There is no travel insurance to activate, because this card has no travel insurance certificate. Purchase security and extended warranty apply automatically when you charge the item to the card. Rental collision coverage activates when you reserve and pay for the full rental with the card and decline the agency's own waiver. The one benefit you must switch on yourself is the Canadian Tire Roadside Gold plan, which you activate at triangle.com with the promo code TRIANGLE.
- No. The Triangle World Elite Mastercard includes no emergency travel medical insurance at any age. If you are injured or fall ill outside your province, every hospital, physician, and prescription cost is out of pocket, and provincial plans like OHIP and RAMQ pay almost nothing abroad. A serious US emergency room visit can run $20,000 to $80,000. Anyone traveling on this card should buy a standalone travel medical policy before leaving.
- Purchase security and extended warranty cover the cardmember who charges the item to the account. For car rental collision coverage, the insured person is the cardmember plus any other driver who holds a valid licence and has the cardmember's permission to drive, even if they are not listed on the rental contract. All eligible persons must be residents of Canada and the account must be in good standing.
- Reserve and pay for the entire rental with the card and decline the rental agency's collision or loss damage waiver at the counter. The card then covers damage or theft up to the vehicle's actual cash value, for rentals of up to 31 consecutive days, on cars, SUVs, and minivans with an MSRP of $65,000 or less. It is primary coverage, so you do not claim through personal auto insurance first. It covers the vehicle only, never third-party liability.
- It is primary. You decline the rental agency's waiver and the card responds directly to damage or theft of the vehicle, up to its actual cash value, without going through your personal auto policy first. That said, it is not full insurance: it covers the rental vehicle only, with no third-party liability for injury or damage you cause to others, so you still need the agency's or your own liability coverage.
- Call the insurer, Assurant, at 1-800-797-8389 as soon as the loss happens. For a damaged or stolen rental you must report within 48 hours; for purchase security, within 90 days and before any repair. Keep the sales receipt, the card statement, the rental agreement, and any police report, then complete the claim form the insurer sends. Submit full proof of claim within one year of the loss. Roadside service is handled separately by Canadian Tire at 1-888-727-7478.
- No. The Triangle World Elite Mastercard does not include cell phone or mobile device protection. If a phone you bought with the card is lost, stolen, or has a cracked screen, repair and replacement are out of pocket. The card's protection package is limited to purchase security and extended warranty, both of which exclude routine wear and tear and most damage to devices once you are using them normally.
- The base Triangle Mastercard has no insurance certificate at all. The Triangle World Elite Mastercard adds rental car collision coverage, purchase security, extended warranty, a free Canadian Tire Roadside Gold plan, and concierge service. What neither card includes is travel insurance: there is no emergency medical, trip cancellation, or flight delay on any Triangle card. The World Elite tier upgrades your purchase and rental protection, not your travel protection.
- It does not cover anything travel-related: no emergency medical, no trip cancellation or interruption, no flight or baggage delay, no lost baggage, and no travel accident benefit. On the rental side it covers the vehicle but not third-party liability or personal effects. On protection, it excludes cell phone, price, return, event ticket, and rideshare benefits. It covers car rental collision, purchase security, extended warranty, and roadside, and that is the full list.
