What people ask about the National Bank Syncro Mastercard
- No. The Syncro Mastercard includes no travel insurance — there is no emergency medical coverage abroad, no trip cancellation or interruption, no flight or baggage delay, no lost-baggage indemnity, and no travel accident coverage. If you travel, you should buy a separate travel insurance policy.
- Only two protections: purchase protection (covers most new items against theft or breakage for 90 days) and extended warranty (doubles the manufacturer's warranty by up to one additional year). Together they are capped at $60,000 for the entire life of the account.
- No. There is no rental car collision/loss damage waiver (CDW), liability, roadside assistance, or personal-effects coverage. Do not decline the rental agency's CDW expecting coverage from this card — you have none.
- No. The card has no mobile device or cell phone insurance. Electronics — including phones — are also specifically excluded from purchase protection.
- It reimburses theft or accidental breakage of most new items charged to the card within 90 days of purchase, in Canada or abroad. Electronics and software, jewellery theft, automotive items, appliances, perishables and mail-order purchases are excluded, and the maximum is $60,000 for the life of the account.
- Extended warranty doubles the manufacturer's original warranty by up to one additional year, as long as that warranty is valid in Canada and the item was charged to the card. It shares the same $60,000 account-lifetime cap with purchase protection.
- The annual fee is $35 for the primary cardholder ($0 for additional cards). The protection benefits are underwritten by National Bank Life Insurance Company (Canassurance Insurance Company in Alberta) under group insurance policy 713705-1.
- Contact CanAssistance Inc. as soon as the event occurs at 1-888-235-2645 (Canada/US) or +1 514-286-8345 collect. Complete the claim forms, attach your receipt, card statement and manufacturer's warranty, and return them ideally within 90 days. Approved benefits are paid within 60 days of a complete file.
