FAQ

What people ask about the HSBC +Rewards Mastercard

  • No. The +Rewards Mastercard has no travel insurance of any kind: no emergency medical, no trip cancellation or interruption, no flight or baggage delay, and no travel accident coverage. HSBC once sold optional travel medical insurance separately (about $69/year), but that was never part of the card.
  • No. HSBC Bank Canada was bought by RBC and the deal closed on March 28, 2024. HSBC no longer issues credit cards in Canada, and existing +Rewards cardholders were moved to RBC products. This page is kept for reference.
  • Two insurance benefits: Purchase Assurance protects most new purchases against loss, theft or damage for 90 days, and Extended Warranty doubles the manufacturer's warranty by up to one year. Both share a $60,000 lifetime maximum per account.
  • If you find the identical item advertised in Canada at a lower price within 60 days of buying it, and you are not returning the item, Assurant refunds the difference. The refund is capped at $500 per item and $1,000 per account each calendar year, for up to 3 identical items. Computers, cell phones and electronics are excluded.
  • No. Unlike the HSBC Cash Rewards Mastercard, the +Rewards Mastercard has no mobile device insurance, and Price Protection specifically excludes phones and electronics.
  • No. There is no collision or loss damage waiver, liability, roadside assistance or personal effects coverage. If you rent a car, buy the rental agency's damage waiver.
  • Call Assurant at 1-800-668-8680 from Canada or the U.S., or 416-977-6066 collect from elsewhere. Report a purchase loss right away and send proof within 90 days; for Price Protection, submit the form and proof within 120 days of purchase.
  • Yes. Purchase Assurance and Extended Warranty together are capped at $60,000 over the life of the account. Price Protection is capped at $500 per item and $1,000 per account per year.
