Charge your return flights to the Amex KrisFlyer and a complimentary Chubb policy switches on by itself, but read the fine print before you count on it. The cover is thin: a travel accident lump sum of up to S$350,000 if an accident on a scheduled flight, ferry or train causes death or permanent disablement, plus small cash benefits for flight delay, a missed connection and delayed baggage. There is no overseas medical cover, no emergency evacuation, no trip cancellation and no baggage-loss cover at all. So an overseas hospital bill after you fall ill, a trip you have to cancel, or a bag that never turns up are entirely on you, and MediShield Life, Singapore's national health scheme, does not follow you outside the country. Activation is automatic with no opt-in form, as long as the travel cost for the originating and return journey was charged to the card. How to make an Amex KrisFlyer travel insurance claim

Step 1: Submit your claim to Chubb within 30 days

Make your claim online at Chubb's Singapore claims centre (chubbclaims.com/amex/sg-en) or call +65 6299 0922. Notify Chubb as soon as practicable and in any event within 30 days of the incident. Only expenses charged to the Amex KrisFlyer can be reimbursed.

Step 2: Gather the proof Chubb needs

Keep the card statement showing the originating and return fare was charged, your boarding passes, and the airline's written confirmation of any delay or missed connection. For delayed baggage, obtain a Property Irregularity Report from the airline before you leave the airport.

Step 3: Escalate to FIDReC if a fair claim is denied
