Picture an accident on your flight to Bangkok: the Family & Friends card's complimentary Maybank cover pays a personal accident lump sum (a one-off payment for death or serious permanent injury) of up to S$300,000 from a common-carrier accident, meaning an accident on a scheduled flight, ferry, train or bus you paid to ride. Around that headline sits only small cash: up to S$100 for a missed connection and up to S$300 if a checked bag is lost. There is no overseas medical benefit, so an ordinary hospital admission abroad is entirely on you, and MediShield Life does not pay for treatment outside Singapore. There is no evacuation for a living patient either: the only repatriation benefit is S$5,000 to bring back mortal remains after a death, not to fly a sick or injured cardholder home. There is no trip cancellation, so prepaid flights and hotels are not refundable if you call the trip off. The cover switches on automatically when the travel fare is charged to the card, with no form to submit. Treat this as an accident bonus, not travel insurance, and pair it with a standalone Singapore policy from about S$20 a trip that pays the medical bills, evacuation and cancellation this certificate leaves out.

The personal accident benefit (a lump sum for accidental death or permanent disablement) pays up to S$300,000 for the cardholder, spouse or a dependent child on a covered trip whose fare was charged to the card. It is a common-carrier travel accident sum, meaning it applies to an accident during the journey, including while you ride, board or alight a scheduled flight, ferry, train or bus. For a child under 16, the accidental death payout is limited to S$1,000.

No overseas emergency medical cover. This benefit is not included with this card. All medical costs overseas are the cardholder's responsibility. MediShield Life does not cover you outside Singapore, and a serious hospital admission in the US or Europe can run S$100,000 or more.
The only repatriation benefit is up to S$5,000 to bring the mortal remains of an insured person home after a death on a covered trip. There is no emergency medical evacuation for a living patient, so this does not pay to fly a sick or injured cardholder to hospital or home. Any air ambulance you need is your own cost, and one from Bali or Bangkok back to Singapore commonly runs S$50,000 to S$120,000.
No overseas emergency dental cover. This benefit is not included with this card. Emergency dental treatment overseas is out of pocket.
No hospital cash allowance. This benefit is not included with this card. There is no daily cash payment while you are hospitalised overseas.
No trip cancellation. This benefit is not included with this card. Prepaid flights, hotels, and tours are not reimbursable if you cancel. A standalone travel insurance policy is required for this coverage.
No trip curtailment cover. This benefit is not included with this card. The cost to fly home early after a family emergency and resume a trip is out of pocket.
No travel disruption cover. This benefit is not included with this card. Extra accommodation and transport from a trip disruption are the cardholder's responsibility.
No travel delay cover. This benefit is not included with this card. Meals, accommodation, and transport during a delay are the cardholder's responsibility.
If your confirmed onward connecting flight is missed because your incoming flight arrived late and no alternative onward transport is available within 12 hours, the card reimburses hotel and meal charges put on it, up to S$100 per person and a maximum of S$200 for you and your family. This is a reimbursement, so keep the receipts. The amount is small and meant for a meal and a night, not a full re-routing.
If your checked-in luggage is not delivered within 48 hours of arrival, it is treated as permanently lost and the card reimburses emergency purchases of essential clothing and requisites charged to it, up to S$300 per person and a maximum of S$600 for you and your family. You must report the loss and file a Property Irregularity Report with the airline. This is a small essentials allowance, not the replacement value of the bag and its contents.
If your checked-in luggage is delayed more than 12 hours after you arrive, the card reimburses emergency purchases of essential clothing and requisites charged to it, up to S$100 per person and a maximum of S$200 for you and your family. Keep the receipts and the airline's written confirmation of the delay. This is a small allowance for a change of clothes, not the value of the delayed bag.
No travel documents cover. This benefit is not included with this card. The cost to replace a lost passport or reclaim fraudulent card use overseas is out of pocket.
No personal liability cover. This benefit is not included with this card. Legal liability for injury to others or property damage overseas is uninsured, and claims commonly reach hundreds of thousands of dollars.

One of the best cashback cards for a family
Easily one of the best cashback card for an average family. I get between $50-$80 cashback on an average by hitting the $800 required amount on these categories - grocery, dining, transport, Telco and pharmacy.

Not hard to hit the cashback categories
This is really quite a good card to get for the cashback. Its not that hard to hit the categories, especially for groceries. ALL groceries at major supermarkets can already, meaning you NTUC, Sheng Shiong and Giant. If you like me, don't own a car, I suppose the Grab trips will help you very easily hit their cashback requirements.

How to make a Maybank Family & Friends travel accident claim
Step 1: Notify Etiqa General Insurance Berhad as soon as possible
Start your claim with Etiqa General Insurance Berhad within the notice period in the certificate, commonly 30 days of the incident. Only expenses charged to the Family & Friends can be reimbursed where the benefit requires the fare to be charged to the card.
Step 2: Gather the proof Etiqa General Insurance Berhad needs
Keep the card statement showing the fare was charged, your boarding passes, and for a medical claim the doctor's report and receipts. For delayed or lost baggage, get a Property Irregularity Report from the airline before leaving the airport; for theft, file a police report within 24 hours.
Step 3: Escalate to FIDReC if a fair claim is denied
If Etiqa General Insurance Berhad rejects a claim you believe is valid, escalate free of charge to FIDReC, the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre, within 6 months of the insurer's final reply. FIDReC independently mediates disputes between consumers and financial institutions in Singapore.
