Apple Card does not include trip cancellation insurance. Goldman Sachs opted out of the standard Mastercard World insurance package when issuing this card. A prepaid trip cancelled for illness, job loss, or a family emergency has no reimbursement from the card.

Our take on travel insurance for the Apple Mastercard
No travel insurance, full stop. Apple Card does not include trip cancellation, trip delay, baggage coverage, emergency medical, or evacuation assistance. Goldman Sachs opted out of the standard Mastercard World insurance package when they issued the card. A $3,000 trip cancelled for illness costs $3,000 out of pocket. International travelers without a standalone policy carry 100% of the risk. Daily Cash is the product here, not protection.

What does Apple Mastercard Travel Insurance actually cover?
No trip interruption coverage. If a trip is cut short due to a covered event, the cardholder bears the full unused costs.
No emergency medical or hospital coverage abroad. Mastercard Global Service can help locate a doctor or hospital, but pays no medical bills. A three-day hospital stay in Europe can run $5,000 to $20,000 without insurance.
No medical repatriation or evacuation assistance. Emergency medical transport from abroad can cost $50,000 or more without coverage.
No travel delay reimbursement. Meals, hotel stays, and rebooking costs caused by a significant delay are not covered.
No missed connection coverage. Replacement flights or hotels caused by a missed connection are entirely out of pocket.
No early return coverage. Costs to cut a trip short due to a family emergency or illness at home are not reimbursed.
No baggage delay reimbursement. Emergency purchases while waiting for delayed luggage are not covered.
No lost, stolen, or damaged baggage coverage. Airline liability is typically limited to $1,700 for domestic flights; international coverage is even lower.
No personal liability coverage while traveling abroad.
No hotel theft protection. Personal belongings stolen from a hotel room or safe are not covered by the card.

What cardholders say about the Apple Mastercard

Daily Cash posts before I leave the store
The speed of Daily Cash is unlike anything else I've used. It shows up in my account immediately after a purchase, not a day later, not at the end of the month. For Apple Pay transactions, that 2% instant credit feels very different from a card that makes you wait for a statement cycle.
r/CreditCards
Cancelled a $3,000 trip and got nothing
Booked an international trip and charged everything to Apple Card. When illness forced a cancellation, the card provided zero coverage. No trip cancellation, no reimbursement of any kind. A separate travel policy I had purchased covered part of the loss, but that was my own planning, not Apple Card. The card should not be used for any prepaid travel booking.

The 1% physical card rate does not hold up in 2024
Outside Apple Pay, the titanium card earns 1%. There are multiple no-fee cards paying 2% flat everywhere. Unless you are paying exclusively via Apple Pay, the cashback rate is uncompetitive. It works as a focused Apple Pay card, but falls apart as a general-purpose card the moment you are somewhere Apple Pay is not accepted.

Travel losses
Apple Card provides no reimbursement for cancelled trips, rental car damage, lost baggage, or medical expenses abroad. For coverage, use a dedicated travel insurance policy or a card that includes CDW and trip cancellation.
What people ask about the Apple Mastercard
- No. Apple Card does not include trip cancellation, trip interruption, or any form of travel protection insurance. If you prepay a flight, hotel, or cruise and cancel for any reason including illness, job loss, or a family emergency, the card provides no reimbursement. Apple Card is a cashback card, not a travel insurance card. If you travel with significant prepaid costs, book with a card that includes trip cancellation or purchase a standalone travel insurance policy before you depart.
- No. Apple Card does not include CDW or any rental car damage coverage. The Hertz partnership offers a discounted LDW rate of $16.95 per day, but this is a paid service you purchase at the counter, not a benefit built into the card. If you rent with another company, there is no Apple Card protection at all.
- There are no travel insurance claims to file on the Apple Card. If you have a general card issue while traveling, call Apple Card Support at 1-800-MY-APPLE, available 24/7. For network-related emergencies (card not accepted, lost card abroad), Mastercard Global Service is reachable at +1-636-722-7111 collect from any country. For travel losses such as a cancelled trip or rental car damage, you need a separate travel insurance policy or a different credit card.
- No. Apple Card does not include emergency medical coverage, hospital reimbursement, or medical evacuation assistance of any kind. Mastercard Global Service (+1-636-722-7111, collect) can help locate a hospital or English-speaking doctor, but does not pay any medical bills. Americans traveling abroad without employer-sponsored international health coverage are fully exposed to out-of-pocket costs.
- Apple Card's benefits are limited to financial and cashback features, not insurance. Daily Cash is credited to the primary cardholder's Apple Cash account. Apple Card Family lets you share the card with family members under one account, with each participant earning Daily Cash on their own spending. There are no travel insurance beneficiaries and no eligible family members for CDW or trip cancellation, because the card carries no insurance.
- Apple Card gives Hertz cardholders a discounted LDW rate of $16.95 per day, free roadside service, one free additional driver, and 5% off Pay Later rates. The LDW discount is real if Hertz's standard LDW in your market runs $25 to $30 per day. But it is still a paid daily add-on, not a free card benefit. Cards with included CDW cost you nothing extra at the counter.
- No. Apple Card does not include cell phone protection. There is no reimbursement for cracked screens, theft, or mechanical failure through the card's benefits. This is a notable gap given the card is designed for the Apple ecosystem and many users purchase iPhones with it. If you carry an iPhone without AppleCare+ and without a card that covers phone damage, the out-of-pocket replacement cost for a current iPhone starts at around $599.
- Apple Card's core benefits are financial: Daily Cash (3% at Apple and select partners via Apple Pay, 2% everywhere else via Apple Pay, 1% on the titanium card), no annual fee, no foreign transaction fees, no late fees, and a savings account earning 3.40% APY. Additional perks include six months of Uber One, 2% Travel Credits at Booking.com, and a per-transaction virtual card number that limits fraud exposure. What the card does not offer is travel insurance, CDW, purchase protection, or extended warranty.
- For earning cashback, yes: you get 2% on every Apple Pay transaction including flights and hotels booked through the app. For protection, no. Apple Card provides no trip cancellation, no CDW, no medical coverage, and no baggage protection. If a flight is cancelled after you paid with Apple Card, your only recourse is the airline's own refund policy. Use the Apple Card for the Daily Cash, but pay for travel with a card that includes trip protection if you have significant prepaid costs.
- Everyday spending perks focus on the Daily Cash program. You earn 3% back at Apple directly, and at a partner list that includes Nike, Exxon, Walgreens, ChargePoint, Uber, Hertz, Booking.com, and Ace Hardware. Apple Pay purchases at all other merchants earn 2%. The physical titanium card earns 1% for merchants that do not accept Apple Pay. Daily Cash posts the same day you spend and goes directly into your Apple Cash balance for immediate use. The card also includes Uber One (six months free) and no fees of any kind.
