Our opinion on Frontier Airlines Travel Insurance

Cancel $1,500. No medical, no delay. Here's what that means on a Frontier co-branded card. The Frontier Airlines Mastercard covers trip cancellation and baggage delays at a $89 annual fee. For an emergency hospitalization or evacuation on a trip to Mexico or Central America, though, this card is not a substitute for a dedicated travel policy. A standalone supplement covers this gap from $30.

Trip cancellation paid out for illness

The trip cancellation insurance saved me when I got sick before a Cancun trip. Filed online, provided the doctor's note, got reimbursed $1,800 in prepaid non-refundable costs. About 3 weeks turnaround.

Airline cancellation not covered

Frontier cancelled my flight and I expected the travel insurance to cover my hotel rebooked at the last minute. The insurance only covers personal health or death, not airline cancellations. I lost $400 in hotel costs.

Cap too low for a real trip

The $1,500 per-person limit sounds reasonable until you price out an actual vacation. My non-refundable flights plus hotel for a week in Costa Rica ran over $3,000. Had to cancel when I broke my ankle. The card paid $1,500 and I ate the rest. For an $89 annual fee card, this is the ceiling, not a safety net.

FAQ

What people ask about the Frontier Airlines

Yes, up to $1,500 per trip for non-refundable prepaid costs. However, only two reasons are covered: (1) death, injury, or illness of the cardholder or an immediate family member, and (2) the carrier's financial insolvency. Pre-existing conditions and airline operational cancellations are excluded. Coverage is secondary to any other travel insurance you hold.

No. Emergency medical coverage is not included. If you're hospitalized while traveling internationally, all medical costs come out of pocket without separate travel medical insurance. A dedicated travel medical policy starts around $30 per trip.

If your checked baggage is delayed 12 or more hours from its scheduled arrival, the card reimburses essential purchases up to $100 per day for a maximum of 3 days, capped at $300. File your claim within 60 days through Broadspire at 1-855-830-3721 or myclaimsagent.com.

Yes, secondary CDW is included. Decline the rental company's CDW at pickup, pay for the rental with the card, and collision damage or theft is covered for up to 31 consecutive days on vehicles under $50,000 MSRP. Your personal auto insurance pays first. File claims within 45 days by calling 1-855-830-3721.

Items purchased with the card are protected against theft or accidental damage for 90 days, up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per year. Coverage is secondary to homeowner's or renter's insurance. The card also includes a Satisfaction Guarantee: up to $500 if a merchant refuses a return within 90 days. File claims at myclaimsagent.com.

Yes, for items with a manufacturer's warranty of 3 years or less, the card doubles the warranty period up to a maximum of 24 additional months, with a $10,000 maximum per claim. File claims through Sedgwick at 1-844-252-7831.

If you fly Frontier regularly, the miles earning and in-flight benefits (50% off beverages, Zone 2 boarding) have clear value. For travel insurance, the $89 fee gives you basic trip cancel and baggage delay coverage, but no emergency medical abroad. If you travel internationally often, a travel medical supplement is essential regardless of which card you use.
